Why would the Nets do this? Who's TBA?

Because, if healthy, how many teams can defend T-Mac, Carter and Yao?

Good move for the Rockets.

The Nets do this because if the Rockets are healthy they become an offensive juggernaut?

I'd trade Artest for Vince without blinking an eye. I think Artest is just about done. He isn't a good offensive player, he has a horrid shot selection, and he only plays defense when he feels like it. Bring on Vince!

On a related note: NBA coast-to-coast reported last night the Clips turned down a deal of B Davis and KamAn for Kidd.

I believe it was the Mavs who turned this deal down.  BDiddy and Kamen make A LOT of money in the next few years.

I actually like Artest well enough, but is anyone surprised that he's burning bridges again? I'm only surprised that he's done so in Houston faster than ever - half a season, really Ron? Still this deal might have legs if it helps Nets clear more cap space for 2010.

Wait a minute.  I though Yao, TMac and Artest were the new Big Three, and were gonna do exactly what the Celtics did last year?
Yeah, I thought the same thing. Even without green-tinted glasses, it seemed pretty obvious even before they started playing that KG, PP, and RA would mesh very well together. It seemed obvious that they were all guys who were team players at heart, but were burdened with carrying their own teams. It made too much sense, really.

In contrast, it seemed just as obvious that the Yao, TMac, Artest trio was a trainwreck waiting to happen. I don't blame Yao - I think he's as much a team player as anyone. But he doesn't have the leadership ability (maybe,in part, due to a cultural or language barrier) to bring everyone together. TMac has other-worldly physical talent (although not durability, obviously), but is severely lacking in just about every other aspect of the game. And Artest....well, Artest is Artest. Although I will say that I really still believe that he could really thrive playing in the right environment (e.g., playing alongside Duncan and coached by Pop).

All in all, I cannot comprehend how the media tried to make comparisons between Houston's "big three" and Boston's Big Three. About the only similarities between them are huge salaries and fan recognition/popularity. Basketball-wise, the two trios couldn't be any more different.

As I've predicted each of the last 3 years (including this preseason), I don't see Houston making it out of the 1st round. Call it the McGrady curse.

Ron's got flaws, obviously. But again, in the right situation, I believe he could flourish. Unfortunately, there are currently only two organization in the NBA that I think could provide the kind of nurturing he needs to be successful - Boston and San Antonio. But it won't be easy and neither team has any reason to take a chance on him right now. Well, SA, maybe...

Amare for Artest and Alston work on the trade machine. PHX gets financial flexibility with Artest's $8 million coming off the books and a back up PG to spell Nash.

Uh? Amare for a $7 million expiring contract and a backup PG?

Anyway, I still don't understand why would the Nets trade Carter for Artest. They surely can do better. Oh, and it seems that T-Mac's season can be over:

HOUSTON -- Rockets guard Tracy McGrady could miss the remainder of the season, according to sources close to Local 2 sports. An MRI revealed missing cartilage in his left knee, which may require microfracture surgery to repair.

The possibility remains, however, that McGrady will try to finish the season. Dr. James Andrews, generally regarded as the premier orthopaedic surgeon in the country for this type of injury, will review the MRI before a final decision is made. Andrews advised those close to McGrady, that a microfracture surgery should only be used in a career saving situation.

McGrady and the Rockets will discuss options in a meeting at Toyota Center prior to tonight's game against Sacramento. At this point, the Rockets have no comment on the situation.
