The reason I ask this question, is that I saw this post from another thread:

Right now, the 3's behind PP are (in no particular order): Ray, TA, Scal, Walker, Giddens (when on the roster).  Enough depth there--Bogans isn't that much of an upgrade if he's one at all.  Pressing need is back up center.

If Scal can play the 3, can BBD at least play spot minutes there?  Can he develop into someone who can play the 4/5 and spot minutes at the 3?  Does that position require a 3 point shot?

Or am I crazy for even thinking this? :P

I'd pay money to see BBD try and guard LeBron, as long as it's in an exhibition game.

BBD doen't have a specific position that he plays. SF might be asking too much just picture him guarding LBJ poster waiting to happen. BBD is a hustle player with mid-range jumper. I would pay to see him put a lick of "the king".

I can't imagine any defensive matchup at small forward that would work to the Celtics benefit with BBD out there.  He might be mobile for somebody who weighs 300 or so pounds, but he's not mobile compared to even the slowest NBA small forward.

Can he?  Who knows?  Should he?  No.  Big Baby is a power forward with the ability to play center.  All you would do by putting him at SF is making him less effective.  Not a good idea.

Nah, Baby's not quick enough, and he doesn't have the necessary understanding of angles to make up for that lack of quickness the way Scal does. Also, Baby carries more fat on his frame than anyone else on the team. SF is a much more demanding position in terms of conditioning. You have to cover a lot of ground with your rotations. Baby is a PF with enough beef to play C. Let's be happy that we have a backup capable of playing 2 positions, and not get too greedy.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I think he could manage against some. It would be interesting seeing the smallforward guard him too. Say Wally... I think Baby can keep up with him.

I just thought if Scal could play some 3, that BBD might be able to as well, because I don't think Scal is any quicker than BBD.  And I wouldn't think he would defend guys like Lebron, but who knows?  I sure would like to see it for a minute or so. ;D

Unfortunately I dont think thats a testament to Baby.  Its more of a detractor to Scal...

I can just see it now.

Lebron goes to the right, past baby

Wham. . . baby slam!

Foul called, but no worries, you can't be mad at the baby

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
i guess the question isn't can big baby play small forward but "can big baby lose 70 pounds and gain at least a step and a half?"

i think Baby just NOT playing small forward is a better idea than him losing 50 pounds and being completely useless down low, his whole life of basketball success has been based on his weight being thrown around. i dont understand why people try to build everyone into this one down the middle stereotypical perfect player. If Glen lost 40 pounds he'd suck, everyone would just box him and and go over the top of him.

Ok, I get it, it was a stupid idea.

Please, everyone forget about this thread, don't pay attention to the idiot behind the curtain. :-X

The only small forward type player I could see him being able to guard would be Wally Szczerbiak.

On second thought I think even Wally would out quick him and torch him big time.
