Ok, I have a friend who works for the Celtics. High enough that he knows the whole Lucky story. Here's the email I got from him today when I asked him about what happened (his name and address have been removed)...

Can we ask the same "friend who works for the Celtics" exactly why Coach Willie Maye has a job at all?

My god he is terrible....

Hard to believe this crap but something did happen and it was most likely a money issue.

As to starting all these rumors saying he started calling himself Lucky in third person and demanded a "meditation room".. there is just no way to believe that.

Calling rumors truth is as silly as some of these made up things Lucky did.

So long as they keep firing T-shirts at me from a cannon everything is OK.

Talk about... how you feel about Willie Mays.   Talk about... why you think he's terrible.

I really want to know the answer to this.  I mean, he has to be related to someone or something, right?  And does anyone know why he is called coach?  He wasn't an NBA coach or anything, right???

So it's NOT just me then?

I happen to like what Lucky brought to the table, and others don't, and I happen to get that.

I happen to think that the dancers are awful, but others seem to love them (or love looking at them), so I get that.

But I have never, Never, NEVER heard anyone defend Willie.  Ever.  He brings nothing to the table and I cringe every time I hear him speak.  Any time Greg Dickerson is much better than you at anything, it is absolute proof that you suck at life.

Well, one thing that I always hear about Willie May (and I don't doubt it) is that he is a tremendously nice guy.  But I don't see how that alone has secured him not one, but TWO jobs that he had no business doing.

Why does he have no business doing what he's doing now?

He is absolutely terrible at it.  He may be a nice guy, but he comes accross as incredibly awkward...and that is not a good thing for a host, or interviewer.

Speaking of bad interviewers, Gary Tanguay might be the most awkward interviewer (besides Willie Maye) in the history of television, especially considering that he's not that bad when he's just talking on Sports Tonight. Gorman, by the way, is a great interviewer. Usually, when an athlete or coach is getting interviewed, you can feel at least a tinge of tension/nervousness/awkwardness coming from the interviewer. With Gorman that's never the case.
