The Case For Reggie Miller

Saw a blip on the RealGM sight about the Reggie Miller rumor again and got to thinking. We really do need to add a shooter to this team before the deadline. I think the evidence is clear about how much better our second unit plays with the floor spread and 3-4 quality jump shooters spreading the floor. Mix in ball movement and decent ball handling with that you have offense that we have been lacking when our starters rest.

The recent injury to Scalabrine is going to prove a bigger loss than we realize. He may be out for a few weeks it seems. His ability to spread the floor with Gabe, Eddie and Paul or Ray has been heavily discussed. The net productivity just cannot be denied.

Reggie Miller or someone else that can regularly hit a jumper has now become a necessity. If Reggie can still run the floor and elevate a little, our team defense will compensate for any deficiencies in that area. We only need him for 10-15 mpg and that broken into two or more parts.

The slashing and defense from Tony Allen didnt work out too well without any dribbling ability IMO.

I do not think Reggie is an automatic solution here either. I would love to have a big that can defend with an offensive game. I would love to have a 'legit' swingman or backup PG. I dont think the position is as important as the ability to shoot a 15ft plus jumper with accuracy for a few minutes every nite. A low post scorer would be fine as well, obviously. As long as he could pass out of a double team.

My point was to use Reggie as an example of a shooter who, if still capable, could help us for short stretches.

Scals injury will be bigger than we realize but its not on the second unit, he was looking like the celtics 6th man, he could come in for perk and REALLY stretch the floor.

but i agree with Donoghus that we have House as our bench shooter, Gabe is also a shooter, what we're missing with the second unit is a BIG backup center. But with the emmergence of Baby i think that we will be better.

I think you're correct in that the team's 2nd unit needs more offense. But I don't think Reggie, or any other SG, is what the team needs most.

A veteran backup point guard (without a creaky back) and some length is what we really need. It'd be great if these players could knock down the open jumper as well.

I dunno.  He's been out of the game for a year more than he was last year.  He's an old guy.  I think Pruitt could hit 40% of his threes... and play defense.

i love reggie miller . i think he could be great for the locker room. i think he's as good a leader if not more than any of the big 3. that's not a knock at all. reggie is just soo cool headed. it's just his makeup. i think that kind of gets contagious. where as garnett is a little nuts(would'nt want him to change) reggie is maybe a tad more cerebral than paul. i don't care if reggie plays a minute. i'd love to have him on this team. we  probably do have higher priorities though. i don't think reggie should have anything to do with scal though. i still don't want scal  in any  critical playoff game.
