This is incredible... every team that signed a  high profile player last off season seems to be regretting it now...

What type of package would the 76ers be looking for? What teams out there would want to take him on? Would Philly only deal with teams out West? With Cleveland in position with a matching expiring contract, we can only hope...

What about Brand to Chicago for Ben Gordon and Drew Gooden?

For Philly - Both players are expiring, this gives the 76ers back the flexibility they had last off season and the bird rights to Ben Gordon.

Chi - Gets back the low post player they've been searching for since... well... Brand left

Good luck with that.  Brand has been injured and/or out of sync all season.  I doubt many teams are going to have much interest, with a 4 1/2 season commitment.

Lots of teams have big expiring contracts (Portland, Cleveland, Miami, Detroit), but I think all of those teams would prefer to save their bullets.  Brand has been linked to Miami in the past, so maybe there, although ultimately, I think he'll stay in Philly.

How about Elton Brand for Josh Smith?

He's still giving you 15 and 9 while shooting 45%. And if an examination reveals he is healing... a team that is not in position to sign a free agent of this magnitude might pull the trigger.

The Sixers would be ecstatic over that trade, but I can't imagine doing that deal right now.  Smith is younger, more athletic (and thus better suited to a transition offense), and (importantly in Atlanta) very popular and exciting.  Brand is probably the type of player who gets a team further in the playoffs, but I don't think the Hawks move Smith.

15/9 on 45% shooting isn't why teams give out $80 million contracts, though.  Brand has looked atrocious all year, and now he's coming off back-to-back years with major injuries.  Plus, this season he's proven that he can't really adapt to an up-tempo offense.  His value is pretty much at an all-time low right now, and I doubt teams will make a huge financial commitment to him unless they're dumping their own bad salary in return (which Philly would want no part of.)

Thing is, that's overpaying wildly for 15 and 9. You can find those digits a lot cheaper than Elton Brand.

All valid points, but where still talking about a top 5 PF when healthy. What if it was Brand for LaFrenze straight up? Portland denies that trade?

My point is he's putting up 15 and 9 with a terrible season. Brand will be Brand again.

Can a team be sure, though?  If he comes back healthy the rest of the season, I can maybe see a team making a move for him in the off-season.  Right now, though, coming off back-to-back serious injuries, I don't think teams will gamble.

As for a potential trade with Portland, I think the Blazers would be concerned about how Brand fit in with Aldridge and Oden.

He's been injured for two seasons now. You don't know if he'll be back to what he was.

I like this deal, I think.  I'm not enamored with Gordon as a good long-term fit in Philly, but it gets them expiring contracts.  As for Chicago, they need to do something, and a team based around Brand, Deng, and Rose isn't a bad one.  Ultimately, though, I expect Chicago to be risk averse, as is their MO.

Brand to Miami for Marion.  The Sixers will have to sweeten the deal considerably, either with a pick or a prospect, e.g Marreese Speights, or both.

Brand is basically untradeable with that terrible contract.

Oh yeah. I went there.

All Philly's contracts still expire in 2010, and LA gets to crucify the player they wanted all along in Brand.
