  • "Spare change?"
For years before 2008, Pierce had been named a reserve when he probably deserved to start, or had been left off the roster completely, in favor of players who were on better teams or had bigger names. Now Pierce is on one of the premier teams in the league, and his name is as big as it deserves to be. As long as I've been following the game, making the All-Star game has been almost completely based on your name and team. Why should it change this year?

I do think Pierce deserves to make it based on his performance, but even if he didn't, or if it were very close, he still deserves a spot on the roster.

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
2000 Vinsanity > Any version of Paul Pierce

Up until the 4th quarter, maybe.  But remember in 2000-2004 (back when you were...8?), Pierce was the best crunch time scorer in the league.

Also, my math is hazy, but I think that 2000 was...nine years ago?  What does that have to do with this year's all star game?  You know who else was great in 2000?  Allan Houston, Jerry Stackhouse, Glenn Robinson, Vin Baker, etc.  However, I'd take Paul Pierce today over all of them today.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

Despite your young age and obvious 29 team-bias I thought you knew something about basketball?

My bad I forgot to add that you were 5 in 2000.

I'm sure your grasp of the game then was superb though; no doubt.

Hmmm. 07-08 Pierce >>>>> Vince Carter. Vinsanity hasn't win a thing in his career. Not even with JKidd or Jefferson. I'd take Pierce over Carter any day.

Look, let's be perfectly honest here. How many of you guys thought that the Nets would be anywhere near the East playoff race before the season started? Probably a very small number.

We all love Paul Pierce. We all love to say Vince Carter is a loser etc. But Carter had advanced exactly as far as Paul did before Paul had two Hall-of-Famers added to his team.

If people aren't aware of how well Carter has played this year, they are simply letting their preconceived notions make up their opinions for them. The truth is - Vince Carter has played at an All-Star level and deserves to be there. Now, how many threads were there this season about Paul's lackadaisical D and his below average shooting nights?

Carter deserves to be there over Paul. Over Ray? Not so much, but definitely over Paul.

Vince was the first swingman during the 2000s to be crowned as the next MJ. Where was Paul Pierce? O yeah he was under the wing of Antonie Walker, aha!

At least Stein has the sense to designate Pierce a lock. Hollinger needs to put down the lube and stop working the numbers.

I'm shocked no one thinks Ray Allen is an All-star. He just so clearly is. It baffles me.

4 Celtics should be going to the All-Star game, or at the very least 3. No way 2 NJ nets should be going. What kind of sick joke is that?
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Carter had Jason Kidd, 5th all time in assists, 3rd in triple doubles, and a future hall of famer. He also had Richard Jefferson, who may not be a Hall of Famer, but is an all-star caliber player. There was also a pretty strong supporting cast at one point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that particular VC team got the finals, and then got swacked by the Lakers. Like really, really swacked. Swept!

If you gave Paul Pierce that team, there is no way he gets swept. Its not something you can prove with numbers, but its something you just know in your heart to be true. Pierce has, and always will be the better player. His team is also like 20 games ahead in the standings.
