Quote
Exhiled guard Stephon Marbury has confirmed for the first time that he has a verbal commitment in place with the Celtics should he be able to part ways with New York, and he believes the Knicks are playing kid games with him because they do not want him to win a championship with Boston, the New York Post is reporting.

"I know I'll be able to sign with two teams," Marbury told The Post.

"The question to be asked to the Knicks is: Are they fearful for me playing for another Eastern Conference team? My thing is, they shouldn't be fearful. They're trying to get under the cap for 2010. They shouldn't be worried about me. You had guys saying I was a distraction, I'm a cancer. If I'm all those things, wouldn't you want me to go to another team?"

Via New York Post

Well there you go, I wonder who the other team is, Spurs? Olympiakos?

If he has an offer from Ainge, isn't that considering tampering since he's still a member of the Knicks?

The Knicks gave him permission to speak with other teams. So no it won't be tampering. Though I doubt Danny will comment on it until Marbury is officially bought out.

Why would the Knicks give him permission to talk about anything besides a trade?

I just wanted to post this. [dang].

I would like to second this line of thinking.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

dunno, ask the knicks. but they did tell him he could go talk to teams (if i had to guess, i would say they thought he would get zero offers, and so either take the buyout to go play in europe or shut up till the end of the year, but thats just a guess.)

I think the Knicks wanted Mar to see if he could find a deal with another team for enough money that he would be willing to give back more to the Knicks in a buyout....

pretty sure this also happened when Mar said he would not give back any salary and would only except a buyout if he received all the money due him.

Also, it wouldn't surprise me if the Knicks wanted to try and work out a deal with the other team around Marbury.

Probably not trading Marbury, but a smaller deal that would include cash to the Knicks to help buyout Marbury.

I am quite intrigued by this idea of a smaller deal around teams. I just wish we could end this Marbury in NY saga. This buyout is really taking forever

If Marbury cared about actually playing basketball he would have let the Knicks keep a couple million and he would be playing right now.  Its a freaking soap opera.

Anyone on the Celtics earning less the 1.5 million can be traded for a Trade Exception to the knicks (along with cash) for a 2nd (for example)
