I'm really liking this show, one of my favorites of the series that started last fall, maybe right behind Fringe. The show is simply fun, and the background music does a lot to promote this atmosphere. I really like the redhead chick, and I like her chemistry with Patrick... I'm rooting for those two to get together instead of the obvious pairing the show is trying to push forward.

The Red John storyline is a good one, though that "evil laugh" they gave him cheapned him to me a bit. But overall this is quite a cool procedural.

Yeah Im having a hard time wiht the whole red john story line. Is it a criminal conspiracy? are there red john followers? Is it Jane's boss? (I kinda think its Jane's boss for some reason)

I also like the show but sometimes they take an obvious plot twist and try to make it into a "Wow! What a twist!"

Yeah, you have to take the good with the bad, that's usually the weakness of all procedural shows. I'm more of a serial series type of guy like Dexter, 24, and shows of that nature. But overall it's a fun show.

Did you pay attention to the whole "house of mensa" thing he did during the casino one? I looked it up, that stuff is real.

I also really liked the one where he went up against another so called "psychic", and how jane just so completely believes he's the smartest guy in the room

Don't remember the whole house of mensa portion, refresh my memory? And yeah, the psychic one was a good one. I really liked the last one when he went against the Russian Mob boss, that was a cool scene. I also would like for his psychiatrist to make more appearances, she was a cool chick.

its when they are sitting around the bbq joint table after jane has cleaned out the casino by counting cards

Remember them being there, but I really can't remember what happened... what did he do? I really have no clue what this house of mensa thing is, does it have anything to do with the Mensa test?

I've never actually seen this show (and I never will) so I can't say weather it's good or not but from the plot as I understand it, it's a rip off of a great show on USA, Psych.  A guy with extrodinary observation skills solves crimes for the police.  In Psych the main charactor pretends to be a Psychic (hence the name) and from what I understand of the Mentalist, he either used to fake being a psychic or he still does.  It's a blatant rip off!!!!! He doesn't follow police regs and the cops are't all too fond of him etc, etc.   Do they flash back to him as a kid to show how he developed his skills as well??

The guy on Psych doesn't even work for the police, he's just a scam artist pretending to be a P.I.

At least Jane is a "consultant" to the CBI.

Yeah, you have no clue what you're talking about. And if you think this is a ripoff, you lack understanding of the whole Entertainment scene. There's hardly anything fully original out there.

I like psych a lot, but the mentalist is different enough so that no one would call it a ripoff. Watch the pilot on hulu, I guarantee you want to watch another episode

Ok, yeah I remember... that he explains how he counts cards because he makes up some sort of story and make the cards some sort of characters in that story, or something along those lines.

I'm sorry I know this is a very old topic but when I saws this the other night it made me laugh.  Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks the Mentalist is a rip off of Psych.
