I like psych a lot, but the mentalist is different enough so that no one would call it a ripoff. Watch the pilot on hulu, I guarantee you want to watch another episode
I think its Psych minus the fun.

Not terrible but I haven't enjoyed it enough to be a regular viewer.

I'm sorry I know this is a very old topic but when I saws this the other night it made me laugh.  Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks the Mentalist is a rip off of Psych.

Great find on the clip. TP

I love Mentalist, but have never watched Psych. I am going to try to watch it tonight. THANKS

Psych is just absolutely unwatchable--the main character all I can think of is Monty Python's "Twit of the year".

For those still watching...

Show returned last night, and I thought it was a really good episode. Team is removed from the Red John case, and I think I'll enjoy the contest between Jane and the new detective.

Anytime a guy who was formerly on Oz plays a bad guy is a good day for television. McManus has been due a good opportunity, with such other noteables from Oz like Augustus Hill (lost), Ryan O'Reiley (Rescue Me, 30 Rock), Morales (Dexter, as Batista), Keller (SVU) and countless others getting regular work on really good shows, its time McManus got a turn.

Now if only we could get Beecher a show...

He just had a bit of bad luck. He had a good role on Canterbury's Law... too bad the show didn't get viewers, otherwise I thought it was a promising series (even though I don't like Margulies). He was also on last season's The Unusuals with a recurring role, though I only saw one episode of the series and didn't like it.

Seems a bit like The Wire situation, you see many of them around, though I think there are a couple that still seem to be waiting for a good role. Though quite a few look like they're doing movies.

I missed the premiere this season -- and for some reason the full videos arent available online (legally).  Thats pretty annoying, CBS only has clips.

Yeah...it's almost a double edged sword for these guys though I think...on the one hand, they've endeared themselves to millions of americans. On the other hand, they've endeared themselves to millions of Americans playing a very unique and well written character. How do you move on from that? Where does Bodie go? Micheal moved on the freakin 90210!

Some of those guys are just so talented they can just move on. They're pros...guys like Seth Gilliam (Carver), Dominick West (McNulty), Cedric Daniels, Rawls, Stinger Bell...they won't have any problem finding work.

But I think what stinks is that actors that played characters like Snoop, Cutty..etc.. I think the role was so good that they're just gonna get typecast. Good one on Marlo for doing Heroes..he could've played gangster for his whole career, but he makes a really decent bad guy, regardless of if he's selling drugs or has super powers.

So, who's still watching?

I just caught up, and I've really enjoyed this season. Jane in prison was pretty cool. The last couple of episodes have been great story-wise. We get some development with Red John, some deaths, and some Jane backstory.

I don't know why McMannus had to die, I was hoping to squeeze a little more out of him.

the origin story was super cool.

Oh, clearly I wanted to see more of him. But it's still good drama... it's nice to see actual characters of the show die. I liked that Red John made it all about Jane, as if he was responsible for his death.

I would've liked to see the team being affected by his death a bit longer though. Other than a scene in the episode right afterward, for about 2 seconds, we haven't seen any retrospection.

I wonder who the new Captain/Chief or whatever is going to be though. Probably some ball-buster.
