i'd take #2 in a heartbeat.  his game, attitude, experience & swagger all mesh well with this team. just hope that he doesn't rub off on him like KG has b/c he'd spend most of the season suspended.

i'd take the diesel if he was available.  he provides size, length, scoring & passing.  plus his aging may be minimized if he is only asked to play 15 or so per game. and he is still a beast, just listen to what KG said about guarding him, it's not like he is completly washed up.  too bad he's not available.

I'd take the Deez and start him. But play him on the Sunday starter schedule. Run him out there for 20 MPG and run as much as you can while he's in. Rest him with Perk.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
shaq's career is nearly over...he has a weight issue and sometimes i question his desire.  he's a great person, but his nba days are winding down and i don't see any value in him being a celtic, especially a couple years down the road.

To argue that he's not better off the bench than Davis and Powe, at a low salary, simply by virtue of being huge (and being Shaq) is outrageous.

i remember when the celtics picked up artis gilmore in the late '80s...he was a waste of space by then.  in 2 to 3 years, shaq will become a fat, fossilized big man with bad knees and deteriorated skills.  even you'd have to admit watching him play last night was painful to witness...

sorry, but if you believe for one second that shaq will take a "low salary" i'd advise you to reconsider that idea...highly doubtful.

shaq has stated many times that he is retiring after his contract expires.

Yup, I think "the other guy" is a perfect fit all-around the talent and title experience is just a plus. For us to be considered a serious option for the him we must repeat. If we do that, and his current team keeps underachieving, I think he's ours.

Sheed on the Celtics would be a dream come true for me.  He's been my favorite player since forever.

Not only that, I really believe he'd be perfect in our system.

Ben Wallace doesn't feloniously win those DOPY's without Sheed.

I agree he would be the perfect pickup.  I think putting him next to Garnett (along with Perkins) would extend both of their careers, and make this team much more formidable.  He is absolutely perfect for the C's system, both offensively and defensively, and although he can be a bit ummm, crazy in many situations, I see his personality mixing well with the rest of the C's.

I am almost 100 percent certain that Boston is going to offer a MLE contract to Sheed for 3 years. I am also 100 percent certain that this upcoming FA market is EXACTLY why the team didn't overspend for vets this past offseason.

All the wannabe GMs on here who have Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ed and Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.ed about the teams offseason are far too short-sighted. There are inummerable quality veteran bigs on the market this upcoming off-season and I think Sheed is at the top of the team's list.

Ainge was fairly confident that he could add a PJ Brown type vet this year as a place-holder until they got to this off-season...

Would you rather have given Joe Smith a 2 year deal this past off-season or get Sheed for 3 years this off-season?

That question is easy for me....

Why not sign both? Shhed for the mid level and Shaq for small change at back up for another titel run or two for him.

I mostly like the idea of having Shaq coming off the bench against who I think will probably be there the next few season in Kobe and the Lakers.

How great would that be. Shaq getting the last word in his last years by helping deny Kobe any rings without him...while wearing, of all Jerseys...a green one.

Even 1-2 years from now I think Shaq will be more than adequate at coming in and hammering people for 10-15 minutes max...behind Perkins.

Plus, byt all accounts he's a great locker room guy who would add a real loosey goosey edge to the team.

C'mon, Shaq and KG and Sheed!

Why Not?

Bill, do you have inside information about this Sheed signing?  I don't want to get my hopes up about getting Sheed.

I don't want anything to do with Sheed.  He's lazy and shows up to play when he feels like it.  I don't envy the Pistons when they go into a huge playoff game and Sheed gets one rebound and does nothing but shoot 3's.

You lost me on the Joe Smith comment, but I agree 100% with everything else.  This offseason is going to be loaded with veterans who could potentially sign for the MLE, to chase a title.  It made a ton of sense for the C's to wait it out, and take their chances with buyouts/FA's during the year, and save their money for next year.

Joe Smith this year.

The three stars are good enough to win now.

There is a chance they will not be in the near future.

Is it just me or does the front court of KG Sheed and Shaq sound like one of those teams you make in a videogame to make your wildest dreams come true? While were at it we could add Wade to come off the bench and keep Ray around for another couple of years. Now that would be unstoppable, Wade, Pierce, Ray, KG, Shaq, Sheed, and the rapidly rising Rondo.
"Sam Cassell was heckling on the sideline when I walked down, He looked at me and was like, ‘You're getting the ball, I know you're getting the ball!'
said Allen.

And did Cassell, a man of many words, have anything to say after that?

"No, I told him he needed to wear a tie."

not that i think the above would happen at all (shaq trade, sheed is actually somewhat reasonable if he goes crazy and takes less money for a short term deal, which he wont)

but isnt PG-Ray allen-paul pierce-KG-C a pretty videogame esq lineup too?

same for the lakers.
