The first unit seems to play with more speed with Scal in there. He also has been hitting some timely 3pt shots, which opens up the floor. If I were Doc I might try bringing Perkins off the bench with the 2nd unit. Perk and Powe anchoring the 2nd unit is alot more steady than Powe and Baby. We could run the offense thru Perk giving him some more shots. He seems alot more effective with his offense this year and is putting up solid fg% 59.6

No. Perk is too solid of a defender/center to back up Scalabrine. That's just crazy.

No offense to Brian who is doing his best playing out of position (which will exposed in ugly ways against larger, more experienced centers), but I am counting the minutes till Perk returns to the starting lineup.

I myself am not opposed to the idea overall. We have too little data to really conclude much, but I've seen positive things that this might be a good idea. Of course, against some teams this wouldn't work well, but I think against the vast majority of teams I could work.

Against teams with smaller centers or centers who like to play the perimeter game, sure, why not. I wouldn't be horribly opposed to it. It would be a good way of getting Perk some down time to nurse the shoulder so that it doesn't pop out anymore this year. Against the big guys, no, Perk has to do the job.

Actually, Scal is more out of position at SF than he is at C.

I think that if not anything else, scal is showing that he could come off the bench for Perk and play with the 1st unit. i posted earlier that i think this could be a different style for our team when he's on the floor. i love the redhead.

No.

And why would anyone want Perkins to play with the 2nd unit? To clog the key even more?

I'd rather see Perk start, but I think Perk and Scal are the same height and maybe the same weight.

I agree Scal could give us a different look with him playing the 4/5 with the starters.  It spreads the floor more, gives us another decent ball handler out there(somewhat, and while we lose Perks size Scal does play solid D.

To keep Scal as starter isn't a good idea though.  I think Scal is fine and plays well when he's involved in games early and in the normal rotation, unlike when he plays garbage time and seems to do awful.

i'm suggesting that Scal plays the last 3-5 minutes of the first with the starters, then stays in with the 2nd unit. and he can stay in until baby replaces him and creates the mean green frontcourt of Powe/Davis.

I think Perk is overrated. Yes he is a good man defender, but that is it. I'd trade him if the right deal came along.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.
