Although I think it is a great show, I'm not sure if I like the "Earth was nuked" twist.
It's what happens when you don't press the button every 108 minutes.

That is funny.

If you like BSG, you may want to Netflix the movie, Serenity, followed by the short lived series Firefly.

Serenity is best enjoyed after Firefly.

Yes, and you should view the Firefly episodes in the order Whedon wanted them presented, not the order in which they were aired.  "Out of Gas" should be viewed first.

You should definitely watch the Pilot first, because if you don't, you'll have no explanation as to who River and Simon are and why they're important.

Battlestar is pretty awesome. Count me in as a Fan. Also it was on NBC(or which ever owns Sci-Fi) a few years ago. and then replayed on Sci-fi.
Firefly is one of the best shows ive ever seen.
I was skeptical becasue i didnt think mixing the wild west, pirates, and space would work.  I was very wrong. I should not have doubted Joss.

If you like Joss Whedons stuff check out what he did at his house during the writers strike.

Anyone going to give Dollhouse a shot? I think I am but I'm skeptical about Fox giving it time to gain an audience. I'm tired of watching 5 episodes of a new series then reading on Yahoo that the show got canceled. >:(

That's the order I saw things in. Serenity is best viewed after Firefly.

But what if you are recommending Firefly to non-believers (those who don't normally watch sci-fi or even a show like X-Files)? For those friends, I've gotten into the habit of reversing the recommended viewing order, hoping that Serenity would pique their interest enough in sci-fi for them to commit to Firefly.

I just found time to watch the most recent episode of BSG.

I just want to reiterate what I said earlier...  This show just flat out sucks now.  It was once great... it now blows.

I was discussing it with some friends and I think we pinpointed the problem.  There are no more epic dogfights in space.  There is no action.  There seems to be no enemies, no badass scenes with the admiral commanding Galactica to safety...     The whole thing just got way too abstract.  Maybe the writers let the mythology of the show get to their head, but it's completely lacking in what brought me in to begin with.  It's just a dreary boring experience at this point... and imo the show couldn't end soon enough.  I'm already committed into watching the rest of the shows, but at this point it's a tedious exercise that I look at more as a chore.

Wasn't nuking the Xylon hatchery enough action for you?

Sometimes the show's continuous bleak and existential quality gets to me. It's like watching "Mystic River" ten times in a row.

But I don't think it lacks action.

I'm not the type to be impressed with shooting and special effects.

What caused the demise of BSG was the mysticism. The season where Baltar was on the Cylon ship and there was continual creepy music was horrible. The previous seasons dealt with complex issues such as liberties when at war or facing extinction and ethics of rebellion under occupation. Now it focused on silly prophecies. Anytime they have a scene with pre-cogs I wince. The show now rotates around some sci-fi religion instead of the compelling alternate reality they created.

In general, any scene where Adama is drunk will probably be tortuously slow. The president became nothing more than a religious fanatic. Apollo's story arc is so obvious, watching it develop slowly is excruciating.

Overall, the show has become far too heavy handed, and the writers forgot how to be storytellers. Watching things play out feels more like reading cliff notes rather than being immersed in an alternate reality.

Two thumbs up: BSG, Rome, The Shield, Damages, Boston Legal (first season), Lost, Heroes, Weeds, Dexter, CSI, Entourage, How I Met Your Mother, The Riches.

If you like BSG, you may want to Netflix the movie, Serenity, followed by the short lived series Firefly.

Watch Firefly before watching Serenity. Firefly is available legally and for free at hulu.com.

I'll agree with all of that.  That's kinda what my buddy was trying to say when he said the show got way too abstract.  They got way too into the mysticism of the show and it's really not that entertaining.  The prophecies and whatever is up with this religious crap with Gaius... it's just not terribly interesting.  I'm still trying to figure out why Gaius has had "visions" of Caprica Six since the first episode of the show (and vice versa)... is there ever going to be a rational explanation for any of this crap or is it just going to be related to some mystical mumbo-jumbo...?

i have not figured out the "head " characters exactly but i'm pretty sure i get the whole has happened b4,will happen again" stuff. i expect both human AND cylon over and over get nuked by the other.each time there is a final five(group of maybe scientists that construct some kind of ressurection technology and have it floating out in sopace somewhere. the enemy eventually tracks down this one planet where they are and nukes it. the 5 scientists also decided to clone another 7 or so. theythemselves would probably see this as creepy but they want to keep there population going.
so maybe cavil and the other "bad' cylons track down the new planet where the "good guys" evntually find and nuke it. but the 5 were ready .maybe in the end there are countless adamas, lees, helos, president, etc. gaahhh, i forgot about the mechanical cylons. forget  it, i'm just gonna watch. maybe another fan can help with this.lol. i DO think there is a plan though. i think they've pretty much had it in place from the start.

i watched firefly and serenity on dvd. i liked 'em. i especailly liked the offing of a couple of characters i thought were very bad on the show. i think it would have been a much better show without one particular character.
