Indeed. It's quite rare to hear Thib right? As I think doesn't allow his assistants to talk to the media right?

I think Doc has a regular Thursday spot and I assume Tom was filling in.  Anyway, I was half-working, half-listening but here is my recollection.  (Anyone interested can probably find the audio at audio.weei.com/weei/dennis_and_callahan.htm sometime over the next 24 hrs.)

  • Re: What's #1 Fundamental In Thibodeau's Defensive System -- Don't get beat off the dribble.  Success there allows the team to protect the paint.  Team scheme "finishes" by contesting the 3-point attempt and rebounding.
  • Re: Major issue contributing to recent defensive issues -- Turnovers leading into into fast break opportunities.  Celtics need to get back and limit the 2-on-1, 3-on-2 situations.
  • Re: Whether a pecking order exists amongst coaches as to how Doc takes input -- Thibodeau essentially said Doc takes input from any of his coaches and that coaches speak up if they.
  • Re: Doc's recent comments on Tony Allen's defense -- More or less reiterated what Doc had said.  Thinks Tony's got the potential to be a plus defender, but that he isn't consistently "doing his job" in the system.  (Note: I'm a little hazy on this one.)

There was some other conversation that I missed.  I was hoping for some deeper insights into their defensive system, but I think it's still worth a listen online when the audio is available.

anyone else think that Thib has some agreement to take over for Doc in a few years? I'm surprised no one snatched him up this past summer for a head coaching job, and Doc has mentioned a few times that he doesn't plan on coaching for very long. Maybe we'll have head coach tom with Sam Cassell as an assistant in a couple of years.

Nice recap. TP.

The slump must have been more frustrating for Thibodeau than any other coach. During the slump everybody seemed to be running by our guards into the middle of the lane, and shooters where left open for uncontested shots. Defense was definitely the problem not offense. Last night was a perfect example of how our offense is fueled our defense.

As for the Tony Allen part I think he's 100% right. He was one of the guys getting consistently beat off the dribble before he went out with the ankle injury.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
well, i've heard it said you can call them "assistant" or "associate" but you still abbreviate it the same way...
