I think Doc has a regular Thursday spot and I assume Tom was filling in. Anyway, I was half-working, half-listening but here is my recollection. (Anyone interested can probably find the audio at
audio.weei.com/weei/dennis_and_callahan.htm sometime over the next 24 hrs.)
- Re: What's #1 Fundamental In Thibodeau's Defensive System -- Don't get beat off the dribble. Success there allows the team to protect the paint. Team scheme "finishes" by contesting the 3-point attempt and rebounding.
- Re: Major issue contributing to recent defensive issues -- Turnovers leading into into fast break opportunities. Celtics need to get back and limit the 2-on-1, 3-on-2 situations.
- Re: Whether a pecking order exists amongst coaches as to how Doc takes input -- Thibodeau essentially said Doc takes input from any of his coaches and that coaches speak up if they.
- Re: Doc's recent comments on Tony Allen's defense -- More or less reiterated what Doc had said. Thinks Tony's got the potential to be a plus defender, but that he isn't consistently "doing his job" in the system. (Note: I'm a little hazy on this one.)
There was some other conversation that I missed. I was hoping for some deeper insights into their defensive system, but I think it's still worth a listen online when the audio is available.
