The Celtics have not used all of their weapons to combat their current slump. And guard Sam Cassell, who has not played for the team since last season, could make his debut soon. "It looks like it's time," Cassell said. "It'll have to be soon - I want the opportunity."

Does soon mean Toronto? If so, I hope these are Eddie's minutes and not Gabe's.

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I agree.  I still want to see Gabe out there for the time being.  There is some flexibility here as House and Pruitt can play SG as well.

No, I think it's time to give Gabe Pruitt his chance. I don't want the team to be trying to find him opportunities in the second half of the season. This is the best time to give a young player like Pruitt his run.

Sammy is next in line after Pruitt.

might be sam i am time. If not now, when?

I've becoming tempted by all the Marbury buzz... But i realized, doesn't sammy already bring that scoring and veteran moxie?

I'm really surprised Sam hasn't played yet.

The sad thing is that Cassell, Pruitt and House are all going to look bad with our horrid bench... The C's need size, and fast.

I give Sam a run. 5 - 10 minutes a game to get his feet wet. Don't use him too much though, wait til playoff time comes and leave him well rested...

We are always saying how we need a veteran presence on the bench and we need to sign another point guard. Danny already found that veteran help in Sam in the offseason. Danny gave him a one year contract so that he could help coach the team for the first half of the season, then rather than going out and finding a new veteran point to bring in the last couple months, they already had Sam to be that guy off the bench. A guy who practices with the team and has for almost a year, a guy who won a championship already with this team and who already has some chemistry with the team. Instead of signing a veteran who might not gel with the team (starbury) danny was smart and is now going to use Cassell in that roll.

Sam I Am is coming out of the Rocket ship so soon? This could be good or bad, but i'm interested to see if he changed his playing style from last year. He always chucked shots up instead of passing, hopefully he's gotten the feel of the celtics playing style by now.

Rather than playing Sam, I'd like to see 10 more minutes a game of Pruitt.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I hate marbury as a person with the passion of a thousand suns, but his game and sams are light years apart, marbury is far better at this stage of thier respective careers.

Now, if you tossed sam in a time machine and took 5-6 years off his legs and knees, then he could give steph a run for his money.

I'm not opposed to either option.  I don't love Eddie House this year.  We already know he isn't a point guard.  This year his shot's been more inconsistent, which takes away much of his value.

I'd be intrigued by a Cassell/Pruitt backcourt.  Sure, it's undersized, but no more so than a House/Allen one.  Cassell is arguably the 5th most talented player on the team if he can play like he did in L.A. last year.  Neither solves the size problem, but Cassell would give us more talent and playmaking and Pruitt would provide more range than Allen, something they desperately need.

Cassell can provide what no other bench player can, leadership and experience.

Not to mention he is probably the best scorer off the bench.

It is time to see if he can play this year.
