Cassell can provide what no other bench player can, leadership and experience.

Not to mention he is probably the best scorer off the bench.

It is time to see if he can play this year.

i dont know man, when he's cold he just provides airballs, and hardly any ball distrobution. See: 2007 Playoffs.

You mean when he was on his game a fw times and helped the Celtics win a few games?

So you are basing not playing him because of one game.

Ignore the rest of his career.  Ignore any good game he had last year.

One game tells the whole story.

come on WL, i see what your getting at. but sam was bad ALOT more than good last year.

and isn't that what we are all on the bench about? lack of consistancy?

Sam was all peaks and valleys last year, for every good game he had 3 poor ones.

That said, i think we might be able to get a bit more out of him this year, because he won't be as worn out. He was playing major minutes for that clips team before we snagged him.

So did a lot of other players on the Celtics bench.

Difference is, Sam has a history of being a good player.  Even last year before his injury, he was a good player.

He is on the roster.  Might as well find out if he has anything left.

most of the roster wasen't 38.

I'm not saying he won't be useful this year (in fact, he may be, and they way they are savign him should help) But last year was the classic case of an older player out of gas.

Or old player back to fast from injury on new team never found his goove.

Either way, now is the time to find out.  Not later this season or post season.  (because we all know he is not here just to warm a seat on the bench)

Sam has been dressing, we will see him soon I think to get some burn...He can still hit the J and run the O for a few minutes a game and provide a spark off the bench...I, for one, would not mind seeing his random 8 point outbursts in 3.5 minutes...I love those!  lol
Let’s go Celtics!!

Doc was qouted in the hearled this morning as saying he "resists the temptation to play him, its not near time yet."

i predict they start giving him minutes about game 55-60, and then see what they have come playoff time.

Not surprising at all.  They are saving this guy for the stretch run.  Doc has shown incredible patience this year (possibly to a fault), and I don't expect it to change with Cassell.  Clearly they have decided Cassell has a limited amount of bullets left, and they are not going to use them until they are really neaded.  That is in the playoffs.

I just assumed Sam was a glorified coach, and insurance in case House or Rondo got injured, but if Doc is really planning on having Sam play an important role on this team, and making the 12-man roster for the playoffs, maybe Pruitt's extended minutes as of late are a showcase to package him in a trade.  Because I think he's got too much ability to be cut, and we're already at 15 roster spots.  The only other guy I could see being cut is POB, and truthfully I think the Celtics could use more than 1 player.
