Uconn vs Buffalo in the *&%*%&*% Bowl.

There are so many college bowl games that I cannot name them all.

Buffalo scored on special teams (just like the Bills). Uconn is playing terrible turning the ball over time and again.

Uconn is the last team from New England to play tackle football this year and Buffalo U outlasted their pro team.

They really need to can the bowls and get on with a playoff system.

When is the contract over with the BCS system again?  2012?

They should have the top 8 play for the championship, then maybe a secondary tournament the equivalent of an NIT in Hoops if they want to milk a few more semi meaningful games.

There are too many Bowl games and they've just about all become generically named (like the stadiums they play in).
Yup

So far USC and Utah have forged their way into the Q's final four. Texas is expected to rout Ohio St in the Fiesta Bowl. That leaves Oklahoma vs Florida to decide the fourth final 4 spot.

Honestly, the BCS settles nothing as far as who the best college team is. We need a final 4 playoff with the championship final played on the weekend between the Conference Championship and Super Bowl.

They just extended the BCS contract through 2014 so it's gonna be even longer now before there is a playoff or a format adjustment (Plus One?).

As a sportsfan, its definitely tough to see a system like this in place when it seems that all the other major American sports settle it through a true playoff system.

Couldn't they still do a playoff using the BCS bowls as the playoff games?

In the current setup, if your team loses, SEASONS OVER!!!!!
It's just stupid. At least for the fans. Could you imagine college basketball using a system like this?
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I have friends who have jobs in major college sports and I'll tell you now what they've told me, that the bowls are here to stay because of the money and politics in the behind the scenes situations that we never hear about.

Yeah, that's the feeling I've had for years now from what I've read and heard.  Another huge thing to consider is the strengh of these conferences and their bowl affiliations.  There is a ton of money at stake and the college presidents are not inclined to change the system that is garnering them millions of dollars each school year.  For many of these universites, college football is their single biggest breadwinner.

Imagine..

"I feel bad for my guys," North Carolina coach Roy Williams said yesterday. "Thank God Brigham Young beat Utah State, it was looking like those guys would never lose. Now Wake, Pitt, and Clemson might falter, but boy does Illinois State look good. Looks like we're destined for the Billy Packer Bowl."
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."
