i loved that game:

on level 1-2 u need to be a big mario or a racoon mario.
go thru the T pipes.
once out of the pipes, jump on the goombas.
have mario float and repeatedly jump on goombas and kill the other enemies.
it automatically stops at 99, you cant get anymore than that.

I always hated that game, only played it twice. But I'm assuming the main character is  Kid Icarus. At least their was a Kid Icarus on the Captain N : The Game Master cartoon.
