Celtics' point guard Rajon Rondo is one of the fastest players in the NBA, and he's ready to prove that in a race against Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt.

"I challenged him," Rondo said on Friday night. "I told him I don't think he wants it, though. Yeah, I told him that - you don't want it.

"But I also told him that he might see me in 2012. He said, 'OK, see you there.' "

Boston coach Doc Rivers hopes that Rondo keeps his focus on basketball.

"If you put dribbling into it, then maybe Rondo has a chance," said Rivers. "I hope he was kidding, but you never know with Rondo."

HAHAHA what a crazy dude! with dribbling i could see him winning, but beating Usain Bolt in a footrace? he's either got a great sense of humor, or he's insane...i'm thinking a mix of both  ;D

ha!  It's kind of like Chad Johnson saying he'd kick Michael Phelps' butt in a swimming race.

Bolt could probably run the 200 faster then Rondo could run the 100, lol

Not saying Rondo would win or anything, but did you ever wonder whether these track stars are truly the fastest people in the world? If the fastest man alive could catch a football what sport do you think he would choose?

The one where he gets paid just to run without getting hit.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

I bet Rondo wins baseline to opposite foul line.  Not joking.

I would love to see bolt line up at WR with the Pats...Make it happen Mr. Kraft!

I would take that bet and place my life on it.  Rondo would have NO chance.  none.  not even a little.

OK, I'm guessing your (Coach) reasoning is because Bolt accelerates at the end of every race like some sort of fast car, but I'm with yall hate on this one. Rajon would be quite simply destroyed. Usain Bolt is the fastest human being I have ever. He's super-human.

Rajon Rondo would get destroyed by Usain' just look at the Usains name, Bolt? that just screms fast. Now if Rondo was named Rondo "meep meep" McFast and Usian had a heartattack half way though the supposed race, then just maybe...

All jokes aside he would get destroyed! and it would not even be close.

But love the grit' its very bird'esk at its core (allthough i doubt Bird ever ventured into such a loop sided bet)
"Leadership is diving for a loose ball, getting the crowd involved, getting other players involved. It`s being able to take it as well as dish it out. That`s the only way you`re going to get respect from the players"

actually, bolt's style is all about building to an eventual ridiculous top speed (as are all world class sprinters) so having him suddenly stop and change direction in a shorter space might through him off quite a bit.

but just a stright 100 M race? yea, no chance rajon.  :)

Yea I know he gets faster as he goes...takes him a second or two to get up to full speed.  but the poster you quoted didnt suggest change of direction or stopping (I assumed it to mean basically 3/4 of the court).

I get the sense that 'fast' pro athletes arent that fast compared to olympic sprinters.  My reasoning for that is this...how many college players (primarily football, but not exclusively) run track as well as their other sport.  and yet, those guys arent even elite at the track level.  Ton's of College level Wr's also run track, and while they end up in the pro's as very very fast WR's, they are 'slow' in comparison to olympic sprinters, let alone the fastest man to ever run in the olympics.  Rondo would get smoked.

Edit:  Look at it like this, Deion Sanders ran the 100 in college in 10.26 seconds.  Bolt did it in 9.69 (while slowing down and celebrating).  The fastest College football player ever recorded running the 100 was Trindon Holliday who ran in in 10.02...still not even close to Bolt.

It just isnt close.  (If you convert Bolt's 100 yard time to the 40 yard dash, which wouldnt be perfectly accurate, i know, but if you did that, it would amount to be a 3.876 40 yard dash.)  no one gets near that.
