I mean he's telling the Jazz I'm going to opt out, either pay me what I deserve, or I'll find someone that will.

He didnt need to tell the Jazz through the media.  I am pretty sure he could have done it without telling the media.  That is why he sounds like a jerk.

I actually like Boozer sending a clear message of what his intentions are. Uncertainty is more dangerous to an organization. I think what Boozer said was both prudent and beneficial to the organization.

Carlos has the right to talk about it in the Media but if it were me' i would have kept it within the Jazz organization. The only thing Carlos has to gain from this' is A) being honest to the media B) become untradeable during this season

I dont see anything wrong in what Carlos did both from a personal and buissness perspective but i still would have done it differently

Boozer is very intellegent and a great business man. He knows Utah won't offer a max deal, but someone who trades for him will. Boozer is all about the money. Remember he walked out on a chance to play with Lebron for a big contract with utah.

Carlos Boozer missed his 15th straight game Wednesday with a quad/knee injury and will have a second MRI on Thursday as he continues to deal with soreness in his knee.

You have to "love" the timing of Boozer's comments. Shameless? I'll take Milsap and the extra $ eight days of the week.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
While they way he came out and said that he'd be opting out and getting a raise makes him seem like a jerk, really he's just being honest.  He is underpaid for a player of his caliber.  I mean he's telling the Jazz I'm going to opt out, either pay me what I deserve, or I'll find someone that will.  Its better than Elton Brand saying he'd sign with the Clippers then bolt a few days later for a higher pay check.

Not that I care either way about Boozer's character, but wasn't it he who had a handshake agreement with the Cavs a few years ago, only to bolt to the Jazz at the last minute. I kinda thought what he had done was exactly what Brand just recently did. It's not really a big deal, since players aren't under contract until they sign the deal, but saying Brand is a jerk and Boozer isn't is a little hypocritical.

What Boozer did was much worse.  The Cavs let his team option on his rookie contract expire (he would have moade something like 600K) so Boozer could sign a multi-million dollar deal and get paid.  The Cavs knew other teams had more money to offer Boozer, but Boozer told the Cavs he would sign with them since they were going to pay him a year before they really had to.  Then, once the team didn't pick up his option he bolted.

The guy is pure scum.

See, this is the type of player that will get a max contract but will never have the ability to lead a team to the title, much like Joe Johnson.  Bad move for whoever decides to pick him up.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this whole thing.

Im not saying Boozer isnt a selfish or me-first guy, but I think many of us had him pegged as that before this came out due to the situation in Cleveland.

What bothers me, and I dont mean to sort of switch subjects here, is Boozer can say something like this in media and just about everyone trashes him (which he argueably deserves) because they already think the guy is a d**k.

However, a player like Gilbert Arenas, did this to his team over the course of two seasons.  I feel like most of the basketball world turned and looked the other way at what Gilbert was doing in Washington because hes a more loveable character than Boozer.  Gilbert told the Wizards for over two seasons that he was going to opt out of his contract and test free agent waters, honestly, the only problem I see with that is that he went public with it, and made it a distraction.  However, what I really hate about what Gilbert did, was the man barely played at all for the next season and a half, he had two knee surgeries (now three), and still decided to opt out and say Pay Me Max money or else.  If Jamison leaves, I leave.  He put his team in an awful position, they didnt know if he was gonna be able to come back from his knee operations and be the same player, and this was on top of the fact that they were gonna have to pay Jamison as well.

The only mistake I see with what Boozer is doing is hes going public with it.  If he doesnt go public with it, hes almost doing the Jazz a favor, hes making the decision for them, and giving them a chance to get something for him.

Im not saying Boozer is a good guy, but it just amazes me sometimes how guys automatically have a target on their backs in some cases and other guys can do the same things and get a free pass.

That Boozer revealed that he was going to opt out, wouldn't it be difficult for Utah to get anything of value for him?  What team would give up equal or close to equal value for Boozer, knowing he will opt out at the end of the season?

i team that is one good player from being a playoff team, or a team that has a big expiring contract already. they could trade for boozer, then in the offseason have two decent contracts come off the books. plus they'd have a veteran PF.
