I thought I would pass along this link.  Some of these animals are crazy.  The Pistol Shrimp is both awesome and scary at the same time.

[dang]!  The pistol shrimp is ridiculous.

I'm drawing a blank on the book, but it was a sci-fi novel where sometime in the future a mean lobster like creature comes out of the water and starts doing some bad stuff.
Yup

The late, great, Douglas Adams, of Hitchhiker's Guide fame, wrote a book about animals on the edge of extinction called Last Chance to See

http://www.amazon.com/Last-Chance-See-Douglas-Adams/dp/0345371984/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1228838202&sr=8-1

It's a great read.  Poignant, but humorous and informative.  The range of life on this planet is just unfathomable.  Some animals you really have to wonder why they're here though.  They just seem to have a flawed design, or have been plopped down on the wrong place on earth.
Yup

I would have bet money on Redz starting this thread.

Maybe he can start the Celticsblog equivalent of Japanese Bug Fights (youtube it if you haven't seen them.)  Round one, the Pistol Shrimp versus the giant hornet.

Maybe a shrimp powered alternative fuel?

Instead of engine you would have an aquarium filled with pistol shrimp shooting back and forth powering your car.
