East scout on the top three point guards in his conference

"Coming into the year I'd have said that [Jose] Calderon is the best true point guard of the group. Based on what we've seen so far, I'll say [Rajon] Rondo, then [Devin] Harris, then [Derrick] Rose. I've only seen Rose in person a couple times, but everything you've heard is true: He's pretty darn good already. But I'll put Harris just ahead of him; New Jersey's [new] style of play really works to his benefit.

"The thing about that [dribble-drive] offense is that when [Harris] gets the ball with a dribble handoff, he's at full speed … and he's already quick. So he's another step ahead of the defender who's playing catch-up. He's always been a pretty good aggressive driver, but he's been able to attack even more than he used to in Dallas. I don't think [Harris] has to think as much. He uses his instincts, looks to score first and is playing at a really high level."

I'm not entirely sure he's saying Rondo is the best by naming him first, or if he just said his top 3 in no order.  The extra paragraph about Harris suggests maybe he likes Harris best... but the "Rondo, then Harris" seems to suggest an order.

Anyways, nice to see Rondo getting his due, even if the East is thin at PG.

maybe he's counting backwards, like a countdown.

Hmmm. That's interesting. I'm glad Rondo is making a name for himself around the league.

In the article, ESPN emphasized the word "true" in "true point guard".  I think that's the criteria in which the scout was rating them, and based upon that, I think it's fair to put Rondo at the top, at least in terms of how he's been playing recently.

Yeah, I noticed that... although it might've been the Scout's emphasis, not ESPN's.  Either way, it seems he's getting the respect now.  And with the way he's been playing lately, it's no surprise.

The last part of the article that discribes the empty stands and how its scary to the one interviewed.

I've been watching the Raptors and Nets this year besides the Celtics and he has actualy hit something with me as right after i read the article i went back and re-watched the 1st qtr of the games i had on DVR or my computer and he's actualy right, especialy concerning the Nets.

The izod center is empty and dead for any sort of a pressence of a fan base and the Raptors arnt doing to hot them selfs, concerning the Nets its even been so bad that when they played the Minisota Ex-Celtics featuring the Maddog, they ran a produced comedy like sketch about one of the Net commentators picking favorits among mascots!!11! and they did it during the game just like when there's a celebrity being interviewed in the staples center but this was just even more pathetic.

Anyone been watching teams from outside the New England area that has simular experiences?

Im not one to say who is the better guard in the east or league.I look at what pg fits their perspective team the best that season and Rondo fits well with the Celtics. He fits our team better than any other pg does their teams. (imo)Individual stats are not that imp.if you are losing every night, its more about the bigger picture.

I absolutely agree with this.  My opinion, which I've made clear on multiple sites, is that if you need the scoring, Harris is better, if you do not, Rondo is better.  If I was starting a franchise, I'd probably take Harris, but it'd be close.

I still think Dallas was nuts to trade Harris for a very aging Kidd.

I definitely agree here, was real puzzled when that trade went down.I was looking to see what other part to it made any sense, but still haven't seen anything to make me see the point.

You see what im saying,Harris might not workout that well on the present Celtics team, even though he is a great scorer whereas Rondo probably wouldn't fit the Nets present team because they need scoring from all angles, whereas the present C's don't on the starting 5.Its a team to team evaluation.

Harris is a better scorer. He's about on par with Rondo defensively too. I just don't think Harris has Rondo's ability to read the defense and break it down. Rondo is a better point guard. But I think one would have to give the edge to Harris in terms of overall play right now. But then again, I'd still take Rondo for OUR team.

Speaking of praise for Rondo, Steve smith just named his best backcourt duos in the league and chose Ray Allen and Rondo as the best front court duo in the league.
