my 2 cents

  • Discretion is the better part of valor
  • People in glass houses don't throw stones
  • Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in his shoes
  • etc...

Although none of the above 100% applies to this thread, I hope that collectively they say that, let's cut BBD some slack here until we get all the details.  If he's an overly emotional player that his team values then it doesn't do all of us on the sidelines any good to pour gasoline all over one of ours.  If he's having issues with the team, then lets have that come to the surface so that we have our facts straight.

Too often (self included) we jump before we look --- let's not jump in the face of a member of the World Champions without knowing the details.   Not that it matters, The title of this tread really irked me.

I'm gonna bring back the Vujacic argument one more time, as it didn't get any run the first time - if we're going to kill him for being upset to near tears, why does BBD get slack?  Total double standard Celtics fans....

On a sidenote, I do agree with others that we're blowing this way out of proportion, but I also think fair is fair...

Usually people with double standards are in denial...

On the BBD issue, I am on the side of 'why would any reasonable person draw conclusions without knowing the details'

Vujacic cried because he got destroyed on the court. That was simply awesome, for all the crap we were hearing about him entering the series from Laker fans and experts alike.

Big Baby cried because Garnett made him cry... it's understandable, Garnett can make any grown man cry. You wouldn't be human if you didn't.

The crying doesn't bother me - the do nothing play you usually get out of him does. He can't shoot from the outside - he can't finish. He doesn't block shots. Positional defense and the occasional decent pass do not an NBA player make..

Normally not, but in the Celtics system, and playing next to a guy like Powe, who is often out of position, but is super-aggressive offensively, he actually fills the role of what they need perfectly against 90% of the teams in the league (it is tough against a team like Portland who have so many tall, talented players).

He probably wouldn't get off the bench on most teams in the NBA, but on a team like the C's, he is an incredibly valuable part of the rotation.

And more importantly, he is not even close to the problem with the bench, that lies at the PG, and the wing.

From the Boston Globe:

"It was not embarrassing at all," Davis said before last night's game. "It was a lot of passion. Sometimes it's not always good passion, sometimes it's bad, but you have to learn to funnel that emotion. I was mad at myself, I just want to win and we were up. It was lack of intensity that we were bringing on the floor. I was mad at myself because I had a big part of funneling the energy on the team and my teammates hold me accountable for that. We weren't as focused as we should have been. We were up, 25-30 points, there's no way they should be getting back in the game."

Said Rivers:

"It wasn't a big deal, really. It was made big by the way it looked. I didn't mind what KG was saying at all, what he was saying was absolutely right. It just should have been a quicker conversation, but, emotionally, at the time Baby [Davis] wanted to debate it, so he got emotional. The only thing I don't like is, and I told Baby this, that if another player has to spend time calming you down, then you're a distraction at that moment.

"We are an emotional team and I want us to be an emotional team but what I don't want to see is us being a distraction to each other while the game is going on. I'm not going to get into what he was saying, it was delivered in Kevin's way, but it wasn't bad. I heard part of it and he was just being honest. When Kevin talks, it's never a personal attack, it's always what the team and group should be doing. There are days when guys don't want to hear it and that was one of those days. That's all right, message delivered. They still love him - Baby. And there's been a lot of jokes since then in the locker room. After the game, they were all laughing about it. It's an emotional game and it happens, and Glen is very, very emotional."
