Antoine and Motombo are players that we could use, antoine could go for pierce at the 3, motombo could solidify the second unit. and both would play with hunger (Motombo doesn't have a ring, and Walker just wants to play, not to mention return to his old team) Both of those are good stories.

Marbury coming to the celtics, complaining about playing time, talking contracts and money with our young guys, jacking up shots instead of getting into the offense, lack of coverage on defense. NO

Who is Antoine going to defend at the 3?

As much as I loved Antoine Walker back then, I don't think he's a fit to be a part of the team right now. The guy was good back then but I honestly don't think he could guard a tree in his current state. It also doesn't help that he never played D in his whole career.

Mutombo, on the other hand, proved that he can still play D and would be a very nice player to come off the bench for 10-15 mins a game for us. He's still in very good shape and would be very valuable to us ala PJ Brown come playoff time.

As for Marbury, I think I'm gonna pass on him. We have too many PGs on the bench and the last thing we need right now is another has-been who thinks he's still living in the late '90s. Wake up and smell the coffee Starbury. Your star player days have long passed you by.

I think last nights game from Gabe should hopefully put to rest the Starbury talk. He did a nice job bringing the ball up the floor. He hit some big buckets and free throws last night that really made a difference. Big steal against Deron there towards the end. Good defense even though the refs were giving Deron some weak bailout calls. He should have fouled out long before that. Nice job Gabe. He will do just nicely in a pinch.

I'll just add a NO. I'd rather see us get Gabe more involved and not waste any time on Marbury. We're whatever and 2, so how much do we need a guy like Marbury?

Ever hear of "HELP" Defense?   I mean...Come on, man.   Only guys like Bruce Bowen can SUCCESSFULLY defend opposing players by himself.  Let's be real here.

I'd take a "risk".  ;D

He certainly played some D in Miami when they won a Title.  He certainly played some D when Dick Harter was our Defensive Guru here.....

Stop making lump-assumptions about what Walker did or did not.

Cmon, we already have an Antoine thread...

In all seriousness and to the OP, NO to Starbury!  Why?  Because Gabe Pruitt is the next Eddie House.  And Eddie happens to be the best bench player of all time!
God bless and good night!

Some rhetorical answers in question form to answer the thread's question:

Should I cut off my index fingers just because?

Should I quit my job in the middle of this recession with no other job lined up?

Should I go punch holes in all four of the tires on my car?

Should I go get a girlfriend and then ask my wife if she wants to join us for some fun?

Should a Muslim American get a swastika tatoo on his forehead for fun?

Should I put a giant magnet near my hard drive?

Should we trade Rondo and Perk for Keith Van Horn's expiring contract?(or did that farce of a situation finally run it's course?)

Should I ask the government to tax me more? (Oops, did that when I voted for Obama ;D)

Should we sign Antoine Walker? (Sorry that one's being covered in another thread)

Anyway, you get the point!

We aren't a big switching team. We have great rotations, but that isn't the same as switching when someone gets burned.

What is he supposed to contribute to the team anyway? If he isn't going to help defend the 3, then why would he be brought in to play the 3? We already have more effective 4's.

OK, I'm going to stir the Marbury pot again. What do you make of this Marbury quote from last night's Knicks/Lakers game (where Marbury bought a courtside seat because he was banished from the team by the Knicks):

"All I've got to do is get free," Marbury said. "Once I get free, the team I'm going to go to, I think a lot of people will be shocked."

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3775717

I'm sorry, but I can't think of a more shocking place for Marbury to end up than Boston. Defending champs, great chemistry, no real need to rock the boat with an admittedly problematic personality like Marbury - that's about as shocking as it gets.

LA wouldn't be shocking to many people, IMO. The only other shocker, IMO, would be if he landed with the Cavs.

Minnisota?

Europe?

I really don't care as long as it is not Boston.

Correct me if I am wrong but when reading the article I thought he was talking more about the quality of player that his new team would be getting. They would be shocked at how good he will be on the floor and how good he will be behind the scenes. Not the boatrocker he is being labeled as.

The New York Daily News had his whole quote in their paper and it reads a bit differently, more like in a context concerning the type of player he will be not the team he is going to:

Quote
"All I've got to do is get free," Marbury said. "Once I get free, the team I'm going to go to, I think a lot of people will be shocked. All the people that say nobody wants me on their team... I'm all of these different things...Frank Isola said I'm a cancer ... I'm doing my thing though."

That's a fair interpretation too, I guess. But when he says "All the people that say nobody wants me on their team" for reasons X, Y, and Z, I see him finishing it by saying "well, Boston still wants me." To me, that's the only response that seems really "shocking" to me.

Stiffbury should go play in Europe and poisen the chemistry over there. As Hobbs has already said, NO to Cancerbury.

No NBA GM in their right mind would pick up Stiffbury, even for the veteran minimum.

But it would provide lots of cheap fodder for the messageboard trolls.
