What most annoys me about this situation is I wonder what would they do if the same thing happened in the playoffs.

If they suspended KG for something this minor in a playoff series I'd be livid. I know they will claim they would make the same ruling but I hope not.

No way they suspend him for the playoffs.  They were trying to send a message now, early in the season, right before a game that they simply don't need him for.

Forget the playoffs, I all but guarantee you if this happened in tonights game, there would either be no suspension, or the ruling would have conveniently come down on Friday morning, conveniently right after the national television showdown against Detroit.
And that is what really bothers me. I'm not a fan of makeup calls, makeup suspensions, or lesser players getting technicals because the refs don't want to call them on stars. Perk gets a lot of techs in my opinion because the refs don't want to call them on Paul/KG/Ray.

I agree on the makeup call stuff.  But Perk ussually earns his techs.  He talks a LOT, and does not have the kind of filter that the older players have to know where the line is.  He also is such a physical player, that he gets a lot of double technicals, simply by fighting too hard in the post.

perk gets tech's because he has tim duncan disease but doesn't have timmy's untouchable status with regardess to techs. (nor should he)

but seriously, as far as i can tell, just like no called strike to david ortiz has ever been the correct call, perk thinks he's never commited a foul in his entire NBA career. His problem is he's quite vocal to the zebra's about it.

Oh I know he earns them, just like he earns most of his personal fouls. (would it kill him to avoid stupid moving screens) But I still firmly believe that because he plays with three stars who get more lattitude he gets less. Every time I think of this I remember the finals game were Kobe was barking at a ref really badly, JVG commented on it. Then the next trip Perk got a very quick T.

I wish he'd have figured out how to tone that down, but if he hasn't learned by now he isn't going to

so i guess those enforcers missed out on oakly, rodman, barkley, isash, pipen, jordan, dumars, ect. ect.

;D You might want to ask Isiah if he should be on that list.  I believe Karl Malone tired of his act and acted accordingly.  When were Dumars or Pippen ever cocky, dirty, or anything other than professionals.  They quietly did their jobs.  Oakley and Rodman were enforcers.  Jordan was as protected and coddled then as the messiah is now.

I don't see the level Garnett has taken his act to this year in today's neutered NBA as being healthy for his team.  As I said, his teammates can't get away with the same type of stuff from the officials but continue to do it anyway.    Yesteryear, Garnett's cute little act against Toronto would have been dealt with, if not within minutes, in the next game they played, for sure. It may still be dealt with.  That new guy Toronto picked up, if he feels like playing by then, isn't exactly the cleanest player in the league.

so, if you qualified as an "enforcer" back then, you got to act like KG, but KG isn't an enforcer and thus has an "act". gotcha.

we are agreed that the new generic NBA stinks though, it's so bland. I say again, there is no excuse for college basketball being more physical than the NBA. none at all.

I hear all the time "well, so and so is a physical player, so the first thing they'll have to learn is to keep those fouls down under NBA rules." I shake my head every time i hear that, how ridiculous.

Preach on doc, from the globe.

"I think it's a joke, honestly," Rivers said. "But they (the NBA) did it and we have live with it. I'm just amazed the officials looked at the play for five to 10 mins and didn't even think Kevin deserved more than just a technical, and the league looks at it and gives him a suspension. I just wish we had more consistency in our league, I really do."

Garnett and Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut were assessed technical fouls on the play during the Celtics 102-97 overtime victory Saturday night.

Rivers compared the play to a confrontation involving Phoenix center Shaquille O'Neal.

"You look at Shaq's foul," Rivers said, "I hate to call out names, but where a guy flies out of the air, he gets fined and Kevin can't play. You factor in the money Kevin loses and the suspension to two guys who had a fight in Phoenix game, it makes no sense."

Did I miss something, or was Bogut not suspended as well?

It looked like he was much more aggressive and did more damage than KG.

If KG's going to get suspended I wish he got his money's worth (like the pick on Zaza in game 7)
Yup

Or the taunting of Calderon.  Not that I think that deserved any action by the league either, but it seemed much more aggregious than the Bogut thing.

Maybe it's a collective thing.  I heard one caller on WEEI trying to make sense of it by saying that maybe it was a "makeup call" of sorts because the double-T resulted in Bogut's ejection (it being his 2nd T). I don't necessarily buy this theory, but what could the explanation be if it is not some sort cumulative minor infraction hand slap.

The state of refereeing is just so messed up right now (NBA & NFL especially - a whole separate thread necessary for this weekends weirdness in Pittsburgh)
Yup

If he's going to go on rants like the one above, maybe we should give him author privileges on the front page.
