Scal was big defensively tonight.Jefferson didnt have a typical Jefferson scoring night because of Scal .He basically shut him down when he was on the floor .

He did a nice job on the 2nd to last stop in OT too.  He played pretty well tonight given the opportunity.  I also think just putting him in their first off the bench sent a message to the rest of the bench about the security of their minutes if they keep sucking.
Yup

Scalabrine the messenger, what a picture that is for the bench guys. If you dont play well then I will be the player you get to watch on the floor. You should be out there, but because you all suck a lot, I get to play a lot. 8)

As the only person in the universe (except Scal's mom) that said since the pre-season that Scalabrine would get some more minutes that expected, I feel vindicated. I wonder what the "he wasn't cut only because he had a guaranteed contract" crowd has to say.

Hopefully, some guys will step up and he can go back to the end of the rotation, although this is probably wishful thinking from my part.

But yeah, this team needed things that Scal can offer to some extent. If anything, Doc should have done this a couple of games earlier.

his statistics may not be dominating or overly impressive, but you can't deny the fact that in the regular season when scal is in the game, they perform at a high level. he is a level headed player that gets ragged on way to hard. people treat him like he's a joke. if KG was out for a game i would totally expect for scal to get the start.

you are correct,Scal has a high basketball IQ, something you dont get a lot anymore in the NBA,so many people are so hung up on athleticism they dont appreciate when their is a smart player who can hold his own like Scal.Remember when KG was hurt last season?...he played outstanding during KG's absence, especially in some of the road wins last season.TP for your comments.

Scal's problem is on offense. He doesn't have the confidence to take the shot or really get much done on that end. Defensively he does his job well enough for a backup 3/4.

If he could just bury a few jumpers when needed he'd be a hell of a lot more useful.

Scal was a good role player tonight.  Optimists would say this is where he can find his niche with this team.  I still don't want him involved in the end of a game, but he does do his job, and he did do it well tonight.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

So what you're saying is, he's like Rajon Rondo.  ;)

(I'm teasing, Rondo fans.  I'm sure he'll come out of his slump eventually.)

Its probaly because he stands out so differently. The only white player on the team. He scored 5 points I believe and played very well defense.

Hmmm. He was 2-2 from the floor including a nice 3 from the corner which is his shot. Every open look he had in the limited minutes he played he took. I think everyone is too hard on Scal and have said so for a very long time on here. He is definitely a player who adds value out there and if the option is him or TA off the bench lately I would rather see Scal. I think it was definitely a message though.

I wonder if Scal playing last night was a message or was it that he is truly their best option at the 3. Has Doc concluded after watching 10% of the season go by that Tony Allen is best suited backing up Ray Allen and only Ray Allen? Is Tony hurt? Why is Scal suddenly playing the backup three?

He played well last night. No, he played great last night. He played better than every single bench player played, except for Eddie's last two games, than anyone else has off the bench.

We now have 4 games in a row where Tony, Baby, and Leon have been virtual non-factors. If the message Doc needs to send these young guys is play consistently or I'll find someone who will, then so be it.

In the mean time, Scal's pretty fly for a white guy.

Scal was beaten pretty badly in the lane at the end of the game last night when he went in for KG.  But unless we get a back-up 3 with more size he will probably be getting minutes backing up PP as TA, Bill and JR do not have the size to be legit 3's.

I think you are onto something Nick, especially in the 'message to the bench' department. Kinda scary though, Eddie House and Brian Scalabrine being the main bench guys every night doesnt sound very scary for the opposing team. Danny? Danny? Danny are you listening? Where is our bench depth? 8)
