People of CelticsBlog, I'd appreciate it if you could all give me some input on one of or both of the following destinations:

Miami, Florida
Cancun, Mexico

I'm deliberating about which one to go to next year, just a small group of friends around June-July.

I'm siding with Miami from what I've read/heard, but I'd like to hear the pros and cons for both if possible. Any help is appreciated and TP's given to those who share their input.

I am slanted on this subject, as I love to go to Cancun.  I am actually going there on my honeymoon in June.  My parents own a travel agency, so hopefully I can give you some decent advice:

It depends on what exactly you guys want.  If you are younger and you want to party then go to Cancun.  If you are older and you want to party then go to Miami.  If you don't care about partying at all then go to Cancun.

Cancun is probably the most relaxing place I have ever been and one of the best parties I've ever been to.  If you are 17-20 years old then it is a really fun party in Cancun.  It can still be fun if you are older, but if you are looking for a party and you can drink legally I would go to Miami.

Cancun has some of the most beautiful beaches, amazing hotels, and lowest prices.  You get the most bang for your buck at Cancun.

That being said, you can't catch a Celtics game in Cancun.

Let me know what you are looking for in a place and the age of your buddies and I'll try to give some more advice.

yes age of the group is important
to know if u want to drive or like to drive is important too

for example in cancun u have

Public transportation easy to get anywhere
Partie 24 hours
ladies (young ones)
heavy drinking
beautifull beaches
cheaper prizes
heavy drinking
party
and yes that maya thing going on

In miami
u have
beaches
shopping
that Theme Parks, Disney and stuff going on ( see Orlando and tampa are must)
expensive
tough to travel between cities ( if u go Miami u have to go orlando and tampa), so rent a car is a must
some nighttime drinking.
Once a CrotorNat always a CROTORNAT  2 times CB draft Champion 2009-2012

Nice to be back!

Thanks that deserves a TP.

The age group is 22-24, and basically looking for a good time, good nightlife, eye candy and entertainment during the day - theme parks, beaches, diving etc.

Another TP for you Edgar, appreciate the comparisons.

Driving is fine, if we choose Miami then renting a car was what we'd planned to do anyway and visiting Orlando/Tampa was definitely on the cards too.

I just checked and saw you are coming from across the pond.  You really can't go wrong with either place.  One other option I might throw out there for you since you mentioned diving is Cozumel.  It is right basically Cancun's little brother, still has the parties, the ladies, and the beaches.  I'm not a diver, but apparently it has some of the best diving in the world.

I haven't been to Cancun without getting a stomach bug.

been to Mexico 2 dozen times, lots of upsides - but more downsides.  Miami is less risky plus you can catch a ball game.

I have been to Mex. quite a bit as well and never had the stomach issues.  Most quality resorts now have good water.  That has changed significantly over the last few years.  I do think that you should probably check out Miami for the single fact that you can catch an NBA game.

It's my understanding that only one Eastern Conference team may even be playing home games by the time CM makes his trip...and here's thinking he might need to go a bit north of Miami for that.   :D

But on the pro sports front, you can catch some Marlins baseball if you go to Miami on the summer!

Beyond that, never been to Cancun...so I'll leave the heavy analysis to the more seasoned travelers on the panel (blake and SSF have that taken care of).

Maestro my man, I think you're confused. Instead of Miami or Cancun you should come visit Connecticut.

I can take you by the American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol, or maybe the World's Largest Dairy Store in Norwalk.  And if those don't tickle your fancy, then someone who I'm sure is as well read as yourself might like to visit the The Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford or the Noah Webster House Museum of West Hartford History.

Thanks guys, I think this thread has swayed me even further towards Miami. The prospect of catching a Baseball game is nice too. I still think Cancun is an option, but Miami is definitely the clear first choice right now.

As for Connecticut, my brother is getting married near there next September, so perhaps we could go on a history tour then?
