One thing I don´t like is that the "latest posts" are not on the forum page, it only shows "latest topics".

"Latest posts" is a much better feature than "latest topics", since it makes the forum much more interactive. You can write a post in "Where is everybody", for example, and once you´re done, you can see which topic has a new post and move on to that thread.
Currently, you´d have to go back to the main page, which is not very user-friendly.

IMO, that´s a big part of why the forums became so silent.

That, and the fact that the "latest post" widget had less exposure on the front page in the last days.

seconded, the widgit on the front page doesn't refelct the active topics.

Just a little hint for those that have commented on the log-in as well as having to log in twice if you want into the Forums, if you have Firefox, let it remember your login and password. I fly into the site without ever having any of the problems that I have heard discussed here. It's really very easy and convenient.

i agree, i notice the ads a lot more.  I totally agree with the poster who mentioned the drop down banners.  i can't see half the page when that thing comes down.  it just seems like we sold out.

My guess it's just the acclimation period from the big move .... plus we've very little to talk about. The Posey situation was talked to death in the summer, then the bench and the young guys. Nothing has happened for some time now. We need some games, that will spark the conversations back up.

--------------------------

I didn't even notice the advertisements until several people pointed them out. There's so many these days that I just end up glancing right past them without ever knowing what they are, irrelevant material.

I thought the forum was more prominently placed on the old site. It was always the first thing I checked. The latest forum topics and then on to the recent posts section. Then read and likely commenting on some of the topics. Then I looked at the front page.

It's not the forum is hard to access, it's just not the first thing I see or do when I click onto the site with the new layout.

The latest forum topics - that's hemmed in, I find it hard to read. I've stopped using it. I use the recent topics section instead. It'd be nice if we could make that bigger and easier to read. The recent fanposts section below that is massive in comparison.

Yeah, that's unfortunately a bi-product of the front page and forums not being bridged, yet.  We're trying to get the front page to update more quickly, but it will probably lag behind the forums for the near future.  Still, SBN is actively working on it.

I dissapeared for a while after I cliced on my CelticsBlog bookmark in my bookmark toolbar only to discover the site didn't exist any more. I was both shocked and awed, and I was very dissapointed seeing as how the site already went through a make-over of sorts.

Personally, I don't like the new site/format AT ALL. I logged in yesterday only to see a top article featuring the Golden State Warriors. I don't like how we're linked to 29 other teams and their blogs and their fans. This used to be a place for just the Celtics fans (and their haters of course), and now it seems to be a place for everybody.

From the perspective of those who run the site and make a profit - it makes sense - simply put - more exposure. But from a tight-knit community perspective, it simply doesn't feel like home anymore.

Needless to say I'm still here and still jones for Celtics discussion, and by my estimation there are approx 4+ hours till banner 17 gets hoisted and Tony Allen gets his pinkie-finger ring (can't believe he chose to have it on the pinkie - don't think anyone else on the team did that, lol).

no biggie, once your on the forums, its fine.

I think the only complaient i have is ecoh'ed by Yall, the forums seem to be the "we have these too!" of SBnation, not the focus.

I know thats not the case, but it just seems that way. in time, we'll all get used to it :D

i also don't like how the main page has a very "nba.com" feel to it now, as it links me news from other teams blogs. i don't care abotu those teams. i only want to see CB staff articles on the main page.

again, i think this is one of thsoe "you'll get used to it" things, but right now, with the way everythings linked up, it feels like the celticsblog homepage is a skin for SBnation's news links, rather than a unique site mainpage on its own...if that makes an sense at all.

but mostly, i think, to qoute redz "i just hate change"

So far as I understand it, the piece you saw was a link to the Warriors bloggers' previews, which is part of a feature Jeff has coordinated - much to the happiness of many in the blogosphere - for multiple seasons now.  At this time last year, you would have seen the exact same piece article atop the old site.  I'm not sure this is a wholly pertinent criticism of the new site.

Beyond that, I ask what the problem with this "being a place for everybody" is.  Assuredly, Celtics fans are nowhere near falling out of the majority, and this is a Celtics-dominant content site, as it most certainly should be.  But it sounds like it would bother you to expand our exposure to fans and observers around the league who could add a new perspective and join the discussion.  Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want that?

I think its just a "getting used to it" thing, as ive said. The old celtics blog,  had something...oh hell i'll cheat...intangable about it.

here we go, you know what its like?

Its like when you give up a car you really loved for what is clearly a much better model. at first, despite how much you know the new one is better, you miss the old car. In time though, you grow to love the new car as you did the old.

thier, thats my bad anaolgy and i'm sticking to it.

Steve,

I appreciate your concern and respect your opinions.

In response...

-the example of the GS Warriors article was just that, an example. The point is that it has nothing to do with the Celtics, although I acknowledge how Jeff has coordinated it and why SOME (but certainly not a majority) would be interested

-I DO have a problem with this being a place for "everybody", as I believe this should only be a place for Celtics Fans. Fans of other teams were already present (in abundance might I add) well before the change, and encouraging others to join in on discussion will certainly cause more hate-posting, disputes, termination of accounts, etc...(you'll see).

-simply put it feels like i've converted my home into a homeless shelter (if that makes any sense). It just doesn't feel like home anymore (although I will remain loyal).

Just to reiterate what Steve said, the Warriors preview would have shown up on the old site just the same.  As have previews for most of the other teams in the League over the past few weeks.

This is still Celticsblog and the overwhelming majority of the content is about the Celtics.  No worries there.  We are fortunate though to have made good friends in the NBA-blogosphere who share their thoughts with us and attracted Steve to the blog to provide a perspective on broader issues in the league.

Regarding people's thoughts about the change over....I think we had pretty much the same reaction for every major re-design.  It's change, people don't necessarily like change, but eventually we'll get back to normal, and that should start tonight with the march to #18.

just so people know, even if I had not gone with SBN, Bob and I had plans on overhauling the site anyway

bottom line is that we have committed to being a leading edge community site from day one and have pushed the boundaries in order to get you the latest technology to play with

sometimes that means adding bells and whistles that people don't need and may not even like - but over time we've found that people adapt and even come to love the new features

that said, all this feedback is welcomed and listened to intently - if there are changes we can make to improve the experience, we'll make them

for now, I hope to see people continue to trickle through the doors, kick the tires, and hop in for a test drive - I think you'll like it (if not now, then after a few days of activity)

As an SBN regular i'd like to say that you dont have to worry about fans from other teams invading anymore than any other sort of blog. I understand why making one username that can now be used for blogs of many different teams, may feel a little too generic. But these blogs have very different feels and fans usually stay on their side of the fence (and when they dont, you can look at their profile and see where they came from).

I've never been a follower of any web site, where, if they made any changes at all, I couldn't stand it, hated it, and it made my life a living hell. Then two weeks later, everything's okay again (unless two years later, some other change is made).
