Stumbled across this article/debate on CBS Sportsline today.  It does raise an interesting question.

my take, and I am sure I am in the minority, but with the exception of if you are going to the games, I feel like they shouldnt be worn after the age of 13.  Going to games, no limit.  Wearing them around town as a fashion statement, 13.

I have a pretty decent sized collection of jerseys, but I'm never wearing them to class or work or out. On the other hand, you can sure I'm wearing them on gameday/at the games. Personally, I differentiate between the time and place. All of this is my own personal choice, I'm sure others will wear their jerseys when and where they want, and I think that's perfectly acceptable too.

What's your thoughts on this?

If the age of the person named on ur Jersey is younger than you.

That's actually something I've considered in the past.  I'm 28 and the youngest I have are my contemporaries; Jonathan Papelbon for the Sox and Vince Wilfork for the Pats.

There's just something not right about getting a player younger than me. (Even though, technically, I'm  3 months older than Paps and a little over a year older than Wilfork.  I still see the two of them as on par with me which is alright)

Whenever you want. I am so tired of people placing concrete ages and dates as landmarks in their lives that they must abide by. If your 50 and feel like wearing a Randy Moss jersey, go ahead, have a great time.

I personally haven't worn someone else's name on my clothing since I stopped wearing my Fonzie "Ayyyyyyyy" shirt when I was 10 or so.  I don't begrudge anyone wearing someone else's name or number on their clothes by any means.  I understand the attraction, but to me, I always felt like I'm not Bledsoe, or Bird, or whoever so why should I wear his name.  I've worn generic T-s or sweats or hats for my teams, but not the players.

But the answer is; as long as you feel comfortable wearing whatever it is you want to wear, go for it (please don't tell my kids I said that)
Yup

Age to me is a state of mind.

If it don't hurt anyone else, do what you want.

I really don't have a problem with age, or in the author's case, any specific type of jersey. Wear them at any age, wear any type. But please, please, please, do so at the appropriate times.

Do not wear your Garnett jersey, no matter what age to a christening, bar mitzvah, any family function not in your own home, job interviews, etc. Yes, I once interviewed someone for a job that came in wearing an Iverson jersey. Refrain from wearing that Brady jersey out to a nightclub, on a date, or to any restaurant that isn't a fast food joint. Do not wear your Papelbon jersey on the day you have to get your license renewed or school pictures, or for holiday pictures.

Have some semblance of decorum. I own a Garnett jersey that I wore last year for playoff games I watched at home. I have a Brady jersey for games I watched at home. If I went to a Superbowl party where the Pats were playing, I wore my jersey. Around the house, not going anywhere, or having a barbeque, I wore them whenever I wanted.

I'm 43 years old. I have no problem saying I admire Garnett's abilities even though he is younger than I am. I have no problem showing my allegiance to my team and Garnett by wearing the jersey. I don't see age of the jersey's owner as mattering.

But where one wears the jersey is crucial. If I go to a Pats game(haven't at Gillette yet), I would wear my jersey. I would wear my Garnett jersey to the Garden, but it is an authentic St. Patrick's Day green and gold one that cost my son a small fortune and too many people like to spill stuff at the Garden, so I won't where it there.

BTW, I thought Dick Vitale looked pretty [dang] good sporting that Rays gear. Good for him!!

Where I live it's about 13 unless your going to a game. But this all varies depending on culture and geographic location.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

just because i wouldnt ever wear that, doesnt mean other people cant.  if it makes the individual happy, more power to them.  to me, not caring what people think about ur sense of style is cool, no matter how bad it may look to others.  wear what u like.
