isn't a recovering and hopefully improving Darius Miles more valuable long-term than Sam Cassell, who in the pre-season practice and game coverage i've seen, continues to ignore the flow of the offense and just jack it up with no regard for the good of the team ???????

so he shoots alot in practice pick up games, and thus is going to kill the team from his 14th or 15th roster spot....

logic leaps are fun!

you know, i saw rondo hit 3 3-pointers in a row during pre season practice this year. clearly he's a 40% 3 point shooter this year.  ;)

That was hardly a logic leap, we have all seen Sam Cassell do exactly what Tenn_Smoothie said he does in meaningful playoff games. And we have seen Doc Rivers move Cassell from the end of the bench to 7th guy in the rotation in those playoff games even when there were better players like House that should have been playing.

I'm guessing, ok hoping, that when PJ decides to comeback after the All-Star break that Cassell is an assistant and his spot is used for PJ

thank you Yak for explaining my point that i thought was an obvious one.

yes - what i've seen from Cassell this pre-season is just that - pre-season. the larger point here is that what Sam is doing this preseason is just a continuation of all the bad offensive decisions that he was making last year into the playoffs ......... dribbling too much, making little attempt to contribute to the flow of the offense and, of course, jacking up bad shots.
May I ask exactly where you have seen this ball pounding, non passing, bad shot taking Sam cassell that you speak of this preseason considering he hasn't played a single minute of preseason basketball? Every single game has been a DNP-CD for Cassell thus far this preseason.

Last year Sam was awful. I saw that. I do think he will be serviceable as an emergency PG if Rondo, House, or Pruitt get injured however. And I belive we'll probably see less of the ball pounding, non passing, bad shot taking player if he ever does play a minute for the team because he will know the system so much better.

Hopefully, we never need him and he only sees time in blowouts.

I have to agree that Miles' effort and hustle should be recognised, and props to him. I hope he makes a roster.

And I would just sign him to see the Blazer's cap disappear...but then again, maybe that's why I'm not a GM?!

But good luck Darius Miles! I believe you can make a roster spot!
Anything is possible!!!

where in preseason have you seen him doing this again?

ya know, since he hasen't suited up outside one week of practice?

It was the correct choice (or sam).  Miles didn't show enough to be on C's, yes Scal will help more if only because he's 100%.  While Miles will NEVER be at 100% again he did show enough that I'd say he can be on the bench for some nba team.  Glad to see Pruitt step up his game and the coaches give him the chance to prove he's a keeper!  I see him sliding into Ray's spot years down the road and giving us good backup pg minutes any time.

I think it was a dumb move. Though I was never crazy about the Miles signing, I thought there was intrigue behind it. He did average 20 points per game a couple years ago with Portland. Now, instead we have 6 guards, 3 power forwards, 2 small forwards and 2 centers on our roster.

Seems like our roster is extremely uneven per position. Also, though I do think the C's have the ability to be even better this year, I am just not crazy about our bench at all.

Too many rookies..not enought experience. I don't know..I sure hope am wrong.  And for the life of me I can't understand why the C's don't release Scalabrine. He would be more useful being kicked off the team than playing on it.
Regardless, I CAN'T WAIT for the season to start.

And I think Sam Cassell was moving the ball much better as the playoffs progressed. The only real problem with Cassell during the playoffs was that his mid-range game was not falling for him. Shots that have always been money for him, he wasn't making. And then you couple that with his poor defense, which once again I point out that he improved his team defense during the playoffs (and I remember him being one of the few people that guarded Stuckey rather well), then he's simply a bad option to have.

Nevertheless, he was bad for us last season, and I didn't think we needed him this year. But, whatever, I'm not going to lose much sleep over it.

Well first off, Miles never averaged more than 14 points per game.

And the guards/forwards thing is not that cut and dry since both Allens are "wings" that can play both wing positions depending on matchups.

i wa sgonna say chris, when did i miss that season?

also, that was before a devastating knee injury. i think it's likely to epect a drop off.

that said, he showed he can play off a bench, hopefully someone will give him a shot.

I think the previous poster might have been a little confused, although during his last season, he did get off to a great start and averaged about 18-19 ppg before getting injured, and when he came back for the rest of the season, he obviously wasn't 100% and his average dropped to 14 ppg.

But it was obvious watching Miles that he still has a ways to go before getting into shape to be able to play meaningful minutes in the NBA, and you can tell his knee still bothers him, whether it's physically, mentally or both.

I told you so!!!!

Sorry, I know that's rather undignified of me but I did catch a rather large load of crap over what was perceived to be a Darius Miles "Hater" attitude. I had nothing against the man I just thought it the logical and intelligent thing to assume he stood no chance of making the team. It's pretty obvious that 3 orthopedic surgeons know more about orthopedics than a lot of people here gave them credit for.

It is too bad because this team could use a player in the makeup of what Darius Miles was before he got hurt. I think that's why a lot of people fooled themselves about his actual chances of making the team. They remember what was and expected that to return. He just couldn't physically do it.

And just for future reference can we all agree that Danny Ainge gives out non-guaranteed contracts because he's almost certain the player won't make the team and not because he sees so much ability and potential that he thinks the player might mae the team. I think that was the crux of a large amount of the arguments as to why Miles was going to make the team and for yet another year, the players given the non-guaranteed contracts are not on the team.

He didn't get cut because he physically was a step slower, he got cut because there was no roster spot with Scal and Cassell being two of Doc's biggest infatuations. Even a Miles who isn't athletic anymore does more than Scalabrine.

He got cut because he was about 3 steps slower, and without his athleticism, he simply is not a good basketball player.

no ge get cut because he is gonna play voleyball in Europe
