I pretty much expected this; you don't have multiple doctors label your injury career-ending and then find a productive role on a championship team.  It was worth the gamble, but the odds of Miles ever making the roster were extremely long from the beginning.

Yeah, you definitely called it all along.  One of these days I am going to sneak some of the Green Kool-Aid into your drink when you aren't looking, so your logic and reasoning doesn't continue to get in the way of the unbridled fanatacism.

Not too surprised.  He just didn't look like he really had it physically together.

Too bad, a part of me wanted him on this team.

isn't a recovering and hopefully improving Darius Miles more valuable long-term than Sam Cassell, who in the pre-season practice and game coverage i've seen, continues to ignore the flow of the offense and just jack it up with no regard for the good of the team ???????

It would have been nice to witness a potential comeback story first hand, but at the end of the day, this was the right decision. Billy Walker is clearly a better ballplayer than Miles at this point in time, and Giddens’ defense can be a valuable asset with some seasoning. Besides, it was more than evident that Miles’ conditioning needs a great deal of work.

I told you so!!!!

Sorry, I know that's rather undignified of me but I did catch a rather large load of crap over what was perceived to be a Darius Miles "Hater" attitude. I had nothing against the man I just thought it the logical and intelligent thing to assume he stood no chance of making the team. It's pretty obvious that 3 orthopedic surgeons know more about orthopedics than a lot of people here gave them credit for.

It is too bad because this team could use a player in the makeup of what Darius Miles was before he got hurt. I think that's why a lot of people fooled themselves about his actual chances of making the team. They remember what was and expected that to return. He just couldn't physically do it.

And just for future reference can we all agree that Danny Ainge gives out non-guaranteed contracts because he's almost certain the player won't make the team and not because he sees so much ability and potential that he thinks the player might mae the team. I think that was the crux of a large amount of the arguments as to why Miles was going to make the team and for yet another year, the players given the non-guaranteed contracts are not on the team.

He didn't get cut because he physically was a step slower, he got cut because there was no roster spot with Scal and Cassell being two of Doc's biggest infatuations. Even a Miles who isn't athletic anymore does more than Scalabrine.

He got cut because he was about 3 steps slower, and without his athleticism, he simply is not a good basketball player.

He wasn't given enough minutes to get a read. They decided long ago that he wasn't going to make this team because of Doc's love of both Scal and Cassell who are flawed players and quite frankly neither of them have seemed to show any desire to improve in their time here. I know im talking about the 15th man but I was really hoping we could dump Scal before this year.

i think scal's $$$ has more to do with his roster spot than love for him.

so he shoots alot in practice pick up games, and thus is going to kill the team from his 14th or 15th roster spot....

logic leaps are fun!

you know, i saw rondo hit 3 3-pointers in a row during pre season practice this year. clearly he's a 40% 3 point shooter this year.  ;)

no, i think a guy with a career ending injury showed up to try to play and wasen't very good, so he got cut.

why would portland make a deal with danny when 29 teams could have done what we did?

Of course.  If Scal's contract was not valuable to this team, then he would likely be gone...not sure if it would have made much of a difference with Miles though.  He simply did not look like a player who was ready to play NBA minutes any time soon...if ever again.  Although the roster crunch helped make the decision easier, I don't think it was the only reason.

He wasn't given enough minutes to get a read. He may not have been given enough minutes for you to get a read, but the coaching staff and management got to see him in practice for weeks, in addition to the games.  They saw plenty of him to be able to see where he was.

Besides, it doesn't take a lot of time for him to show that he is a lot slower and less explosive as he used to be.

isn't a recovering and hopefully improving Darius Miles more valuable long-term than Sam Cassell, who in the pre-season practice and game coverage i've seen, continues to ignore the flow of the offense and just jack it up with no regard for the good of the team ???????

No.  For one, we don't know if Miles is recovering and improving.  He seemed like a guy who still had a lot of work to do.  But Cassell on the other hand gives this team some insurance at a position where they need more insurance, since they are counting on a guy who they don't want playing PG (House), and a second year guy, who was pretty terrible last year.

Also, forgive me if this comes off harsh, but there is no way you can tell anything from his 0 minutes of playing time in the preseason, and a couple clips from practice.

I was hoping that a long talented veteran sf/pf could emerge, and become a major addition.  Without some indication that this was coming about, it was hard to figure a cut that would have been a team plus.  In effect we have kept the group that came together last year, together.  (minus Posey) As important as the team theme is to this team, I'm glad we did not cut parts without clear reason.  Having won #17 with team defense, the team defense will be even better this year.    Why rock the boat.

Good luck to Darius Miles.  His effort and hustle wasn't his problem; he simply wasn't ready to come back yet.  I have confidence, however, that he'll land with some team at some point and his son will get to see him play one day.

Im gonna take a big leap in the not suprised pool.

...Just a side note,

for everyone pointing as Scalabrine as the reason for this, If Scal and his bloated contract wasnt on this team, I still dont think Darius Miles makes the squad.

I dont agree with handing out rosters spots and contracts just because theyre open and available.  Having open spots on the roster really helped this team last year (PJ, and Sam).

Bottom line, Darius Miles didnt show enough to earn a spot on this squad, and Id really hate having him on the team just b/c a spot was open and have it prevent us from signing an effective player at a position of need later on in the year.

We're the defending champs fellas, and we got a tight budget.  Let the Bobcats fiddle around with projects and we'll stick with the sure things.
