1. Deron Williams
2. Chris Paul

(Large Gap)

(Ordering this by ones I prefer)
3. Tony Parker
4. Monta Ellis (Combo guard, I believe he is playing more point this year)
5. Rodney Stuckey (Combo guard, Detroit wants him as a point)
6. TJ Ford
7. Devin Harris
8. Rondo
9. Lou Williams

This was brought up on the realgm player comparison forum.  Seems like everyone who responded had Rondo behind TJ Ford, Devin Harris, Mo Williams... and a few even put him behind Lou Williams and Raymond Felton.

One guy said, "If Rondo didnt play with three future hall of famers there is no way he would be on this list.  TJ Ford, Harris, and Mo williams are all much better."

So that's how they see it outside of Boston.

#1 - Chris Paul
#2 - Deron Williams
#3 - Tony Parker
#4 - Devin Harris
#5 - TJ Ford
#6 - Mo Williams

Then maybe Rondo

Seriously Arenas should be on this list.  He is only a year older than Harris, same age as Parker, and much more accomplished than some of some of these other guys mentioned here though not your traditional point guard.

No play-off success, no credit.  ;) I love how this is still a serious thread. I can't believe it survived the move.

They can be wrong.  ;) If Rondo didn't play with three future Hall of Famers he'd be the second best player on the youth movement Celts averaging 18/9, because the offense would be running through him way more.

I wasn't counting Parker because he's significantly older than Rondo and has two rings. Also, he plays on Father Time's basketball team, so I guess my perception of him is that he's old.

I think the OP was just being silly, because he was looking at "playoff success"... meaning:  Rondo won a title.  That's like people who joked early on (prior to Miami's success) that Darko had a more successful career than Bron, Wade, Melo, Bosh, because he won a title as a rookie.

But if you're asking the question seriously...

I mean how young is young and what do we consider point guards?

obviously #1 and #2 is Chris Paul and Deron Williams.  Then there is a MASSIVE gap.

Gotta put Tony Parker up there somewhere.

Monta Ellis is up there if he's a point.

Some outside of Boston would argue that Jose Calderon, Mo Williams, Devin Harris and Raymond Felton are all better than Rondo.   Maybe you'd get someone who would argue that TJ Ford and Kirk Hinrich are better also.

As far as "who is the best prospect", you'll even get some people who will say Mike Conley and Derrick Rose both have more potential than Rondo.

But... maybe Rondo cracks the top 4 depending on how you want to look at it.

Man it's interesting looking at this thread a little over a month later.  Look how many people had Rondo ranked ahead of Devin Harris and how few people took Derrick Rose seriously.  Funny how much can change in a month.

A month, how about 2 weeks? Go back and check all the posts from mid-November about how bad Rondo was and how he hadn't improved at all from last year.

Lol that's true.  Everyone started the season thinking Rondo was a future allstar... then a couple weeks later it was about how bad Rondo was... now a couple weeks later and everyone is hopping back on the Rondo wagon.

Still... not as good as some of the other point guards listed in this thread. :)

Rondo is going to be that guy who never gets mentioned among the leagues best pg's, but ends up collecting more rings than anyone in the conversation.

Before the finals last year people outside of Boston would have put a fair amount of SFs ahead of PP in a list. That means nothing. Rondo's PER, both for and against, are much better than Mo, and his differential is about double that of Ford. In spite of the fact that Rondo (for whatever reason) was in a slump for a significant portion of the season so far a couple of his numbers on 82games jump out at you: 1) that if he keeps playing like this for another week or two he'll pass KG for the highest PER on the team (he's currently second) and 2) that his turnover/assist ratio is more than double that of opposing PGs.

We'll see what happens.   Maybe at the beginning of his 3rd season December "clicking" just like Al Jefferson.

Here is my top 4 well top 5

1) Chris Paul (overall which includes passing, shooting, iq with an ok defense repetoire)

2) Tony Parker (isn't as good as paul knowing how to orchastrate the offense but can shoot better than most think, a champion, and clutch 4th quarter player)

3) Rondo/Harris (even though i love rondo , harris is definitely his equal in terms of everything plus he can shoot better at this point with rondo being a better defender. (though harris is better than most pgs still in the nba)

4) Deron Williams (rondo has smoked him almost everytime they have played. His offense is complete but his defense is too average)

5) Chauncy Billups (not a natural pg but has become a really good pg with experience, average defense like williams)

Now by categories amongst these 5 pg(no particular order)

best shooting pgs = Paul, williams, billups(

best posting up pgs = williams, billups

best penetrating pg = (honestly all are good)

best drive and dish pg = Rondo, Paul

best defensive pg = rondo

best clutch pg = parker, billups
