BBD had the chance to work his tail off this offseason and come to camp in great shape. Instead he came in at roughly the same weight/conditioning that he finished last season at. The result has been a sluggish BBD on the floor and likely the guy backing up the backups. POB will likely get Perk's backup minutes, and there is no way that Powe doesn't get KG's. What a missed opportunity for BBD to come in and improve and show us more of the potential that we all know he has. How impressive was it to see Big Al and Perk come back from the offseason with new physiques. How huge was their improvement after that! Look for a trade involving the BIG man if one can be made.

You may be right, but right now I'm not seeing that. I have no idea if he is overweight, he looks as quick on his feet as ever. I think BBD's morphology is what it is and if you're looking for visible changes you'll end disappointed. Hard to envision him losing minutes to POB until the later learns to defend the post, hedge on the p&r and set picks.

I'm sorry but, you're point is since 6/17/2008 BBD hasn't sculpted his body into an Adonis? and that is something that you're disappointed in?  First off it's never going to happen no matter how long he has and 2nd off he seems a bit lighter to me.  From all accounts he's been working out at with the trainers all off-season.  I think you might be overstating the issue by a tad bit.

I agree with Birdbrain.  Also I don't see any facts that point to him being in worse shape or "the same" as last season.

I will say that his play needs some work though and I would have to agree that if he doesn't step it up he will lose minutes to POB.

I was also hoping to see at least a slight improvement in his conditioning.  I think he's either the same or a little worse than he was at the end of last year.

He seems like a lazy player.   Prior to the draft last year he got himself into pretty fantastic shape.   Then he got fat again, because he doesn't work hard enough.  Too busy dancing and acting a fool.   I'm not impressed with Big Baby Davis.

EJ,i have to agree with you on BBD...i remember back at the end of the season, after we won the championship, hereing that BBD was hanging around Beantown to improve himself for the 2008-09 season. When i saw him in the first preseason game,i expected to see a trimmer,in better shape BBD.I know its early to predict or evaluate a player, but so far,i can't see much improvement on the floor either.I was waiting for someone else to bring it up,because i didnt want to be overly critical for no reason, but i can't see where he has used his first season as a lesson for the next one, especially in the conditioning part.

It's hard to tell by television, so if more people who have seen him live could chime in, that would be great. In three months I didn't expect a 30 lbs slimmer guy but he doesn't appear that much smaller or to be in any better cardiovascular condition. You would think he would have hit the treadmill and weights and dieting pretty hard this summer, but still, it's tough to expect so much so fast and it is difficult to tell through the boob tube.

i attended a game in person, and he didn't look like a guy that had done much offseason work. You can tell he was having a hard time catching his breathe.

All you have to do to know he hasn't improved is open your eyes. Unless you saw none of the preseason action you could clearly see the guy isn't the trimmer player who entered camp his rookie season.

As far as changing your body birdbrain, your wrong. He can make that huge transformation in a 4 month period of time. Look at how soft both Big Al and Perk were when they left those seasons and how incredibly trim and ripped they each were when they returned. It is just a matter of wanting to bad enough. He obviously doesn't. He sure did when it was time to be drafted. I guess he has his money now though...

The guy looks terribly slow out there which has resulted in his foul trouble. He has 19 fouls in four games and has averaged about 15 minutes a game. He doesn't look good offensively against second string guys. He is turning the ball over. He better watch it or he will end up as a permanent spectator from the bench. It just makes no sense. He has the potential. Just not enough heart or desire.

Perkins transformed his body the season he was hurt if I'm not mistaken and that was over a whole calendar year.  Big Al still isn't cut and he has a completely different body type.  I did comment in another thread that it's quite obvious that he's way behind Powe but, I believe you are being to overly critical to think that BBD could have changed his body that much in 3 months.

On the plus side, he took a jumper against Houston where he looked like PJ Brown nailing that J against the Cavs last spring. Good elevation, form and follow through.

He has a battle for minutes on his hands but there will be games where Doc will plug him in there and he will contribute.

What was his weight last year and what is it now?

Aaron Gray for the Bulls lost 30lbs over the summer

Did you see that article in the Denver Post? Five Nuggets lost over 10lbs each and Melo lost 9lbs.

I think the weight issue with Davis revolves entirely around what type of player he wants to be. If he is looking to continue in the role he is today as a backup C/PF then he should remain as is.

If he wants to become a starting power forward and utilize some of those skills to better effect, well then he needs to follow the likes of David West/Udonis Haslem, and put huge work into re-sculpting his body and likely slim down to 240-250lbs.
