i attended a game in person, and he didn't look like a guy that had done much offseason work. You can tell he was having a hard time catching his breathe.

I saw the game in Manchester and he didn't look that different to me either. He doesn't look like he's lost much if any weight and he doesn't look any more muscular. Now maybe it's just a matter of body type. I don't know. I will say as a fan of BBD's talent I've been disappointed overall with what I've seen from him. He is showing the jumper a little more in preseason this year but he still looks slow, an as Doc says he's still trying to do too much. He's getting in foul trouble every game and he's slow rotating on defense. Doc has gone on record more than once about how Davis simply needs to play better. IMO, it doesn't look good for him OR Miles right now. At least Darius has a built-in excuse though.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

BBD had the chance to work his tail off this offseason and come to camp in great shape. Instead he came in at roughly the same weight/conditioning that he finished last season at. The result has been a sluggish BBD on the floor and likely the guy backing up the backups. POB will likely get Perk's backup minutes, and there is no way that Powe doesn't get KG's. What a missed opportunity for BBD to come in and improve and show us more of the potential that we all know he has. How impressive was it to see Big Al and Perk come back from the offseason with new physiques. How huge was their improvement after that! Look for a trade involving the BIG man if one can be made.

What was his weight last year and what is it now?

Weight last year: Fat
Weight this year: Fat

If he loses the bulk he'll be too short to be a 4 and not quick enough to be a 3.

You guys are beginning to see that Big Baby really isn't as good as you people like to think.

It might be Celtics homerism at work, but I think it's also your false allusions.

He's a tweener with some offensive skills but basically no post skills and a center's body. Players like him get 10 day contracts in this league.

In his case, he's especially large and nimble on his feet for a 300 pounder so thus he is a 10th man on a title bound team. But he is nothing more than a hustle guy who runs into crowds and damages sideline advertisements routinely.

I thought BBD played quite well last night.  He was certainly better than Powe defensively.  In fact, I liked the lineup that Doc had out on the floor after Powe fouled out, with BBD, Pruitt, House, TA and PO.  They won the game, and they did it with defense.

Its doubtful that a person who has struggled all their life with bad eating habits and work ethic can transform things around. BBD was never like Perkins or Aaron Gray - he was FAT. Now he is just fat for an NBA player. I don't expect much more then that out of him. He really isn't a very good NBA player. Ainge like normal manages to find guys that can PLAY in the NBA as second rounders. But I wouldn't expect a ton more then that out of him.

I think Davis is one of the better low post players on the team. Powe works the post with strength. Davis does it with smart moves. He does need to drop some weight if he wants to keep his spot. 2nd rounders are rarely scouted so some get by in their first year. They tend to fade in their 2nd year if they don't add to their skills.

well, if BBD lost a bunch of weight, he would really be under-sized for a 4/5.  At least all that girth allows him to push bigger guys off their spots, and box out more effectively.

Anyone remember how frustrated Tim Duncan was with his physical play?  25 lbs lighter and TD goes anywhere he wants in the paint against him.

Once and for all, losing blubber will not reduce his muscle. He can get his tail in the weight room and add muscle at the same time he is losing fat. A leaner yet stronger BBD is the only one who has a chance of being more than a sideshow bench player. If he transforms himself he can be very effective as a backup or even a starter on a poor team. It is all up to him though. He obviously hasn't figured that out yet. I can't believe that the C's staff isn't telling him this though. It very well may be he doesn't want it bad enough.

You can remain around the same weight and improve your cardio vascular and drop body fat without losing weight on a scale.

Davis size / weight is also in his lower body so any loss is going to be hard to notice. i still say his face looks smaller and his arms appear to have more definition.

He's never going to morph into a cut up body type. He is what he is
See, this is why I'm not allowed to announce NBA games -- I'd be talking in the Cookie Monster voice right now:

Ahhhhhhhhhh ... my knee hurts ... ahhhhhhhhhhhhh ... me don't like when my knee hurts ...

I am not so much worried about his actual weight more his playing.  I expected some real improvement from Davis this year and he truly hasn't shown to be ANY different than last years version.  The jumper isn't falling that is something he should have been doing every day in the off season.  His body type is a BIG dude even for a shorter guy, he's barrel chested etc etc.  He can be in much much better shape and still have the girth to guard duncan when we need him.
Powe has improved and earned minutes, davis is looking like trade bait.

Has anyone else noticed that he seems to trip and fall down more than any other player.  He falls down while making his dribble moves, he falls down on defense, and I think he jumps on the floor and into the stands just for fun- even when he has no chance at coming up with the ball- which is translated into false hustle.

Since I started this thing, and I am a Scal fan (at least believe the guy has some ability to help the team vs. being the worst player in the NBA like some on here feel) I thought I'd mention that HE looked fatter than usual coming back last night. He isn't the most trim guy either, but he has definitely put on some pounds. He needs to get together with BBD and go attend some Weight Watchers meetings.

I was fairly impressed with Scal's contribution last night though. He had a rough shooting stretch there in the middle of the second half where I thought he took a couple of shots he didn't need to, but he did also hit some big shots and got some solid rebounds.
