pruitt is the odd man out, unfortunatly.

were too deep at his position to justify keeping a prospect player who needs minutes and cutting a forward when were shallow at the spot depth wise, and scal and his contract aren't going anywhere.

to be honest, i have no idea who should be cut. You could randomly spin a wheel and make a good argument either way for the bottom 5 players on this team:

Cassell, Miles, Pruitt, Giddens, Scal

i don't really see how you make an argument for giddens, all the kids done is make the most of a whopping 4 minutes of play time. he looked real good in em, 5 nice defensive trips, and a great steal and shovel pass to walker for that monster jam.

How do you keep Miles if it puts the two rookies as the 5th and 6th swingmen?

How do you keep Miles if he is the 5th swingman?

...today I'll pick Scal. If Miles is healthy, he fits the role of the guy who can guard the tall 3s and perimeter 4s.

You can't make a decision on him and Pruitt until the end of camp at least.

Side question: What does Giddens bring to the team that Tony Allen doesn't? Athletic/defense wings are a dime a dozen. I really hope he pans out though.  :)

you think giddins isn't NBDL bound?

i assume only walker will avoid the developmental league.

It's hard to decide such a thing after one preseason game that's why we get 8 of them.

But since this is just for fun I'd go with Sam Cassell an absolutely worthless player for this team. We don't need his veteran leadership because he has none and his .00000000001 shooting percentage on poorly heaved shots isn't helping this team either.

Miles, the Rookies, O'Bryant and Scal are all valuable to the team in one way or another whether it be position or contract. I pick Cassell all the way.

Pruitt can not be sent to the NBDL?

i think the hope would be all that tony brings without the boneheaded turnovers and lack of trust in his rebuilt knee.

tony may prove to be the comeback player of the year, and i hope he does, but if not, they seem to have TA 2.0 on their hands with JR

he could, im just not sure they think its worth another year of the NDBL for pruitt to mabey be a player, after two years already down thier.

i think there likely to cut the cord.

personally i want to keep pruitt and cut sammy, since scal is safe on his albatross contract, and go to war with our current 15 minus the alien, but based on the promises and contract he got, that seems to be out of the question.

I never said i wanted to cut pruitt, i just think its likely that he's the one to go. I hope im wrong, we'll see.

I'd like to see Cassell cut so he can start his coaching career early.

My second choice would be Scal, and that's about as far as I'd go.

Miles is necessary - nobody else on the team can guard a long 3 aside from Pierce.  O'Bryant is our only legitimate backup center, so he's staying too.

The rookies/second-years are probably more valuable if given time to develop and then, if Danny still wants to get rid of them, packaged in a trade deal.

I see him having a future role replacing Cassell next year.  That's the kind of guy you want to keep in the DL.  The player with a clear future role.

What is Miles future role?  What will be his current role?

Pruitt.

There have been some tweener-types drafted in the second round who proved to be stars - Monta Ellis and Gilbert Arenas come to mind.  Unless you're a special player like those guys, though, tweener-types are so dime-a-dozen in the league, they really don't have value.

If his upside (best case) is basically to be another Eddie House, what's the point in keeping him around?  He's the fourth PG, he doesn't seem ready to crack the rotation, and he's shown nothing to indicate that he can really be a star.  You can always get a guy like this in free agency, for cheap money.  No point in this team spending a roster spot on a guy who, maybe, can be the eighth or ninth man in another year.

Better to keep instead a guy who's still a legit PG (Cassell, even with his warts I'd trust him in there a lot more than Pruit), has a contract we need for trading purposes (Scal), or who can back up at a more needed position (Miles, Walker).

The only thing that saves Pruit is if Bill Walker proves to be good enough for Miles to be expendable, but I think they'll keep both of them.

If Pruit shows the coaching staff more than I've seen, maybe Cassell does get put on the bench in a suit and tie a year early.  Have him keep in shape in case someone gets hurt.  No reason the assistant coach can't be in the scrimmage, right?
