It was hard to tell to TV, but does it look like he's in better shape than last year? It looked like he might have lost a little weight, but it was hard to tell.
Also, for what it's worth, put me in the Powe camp in the great BB/Powe debate. He might have potential, but i just don't see it yet. I really want to like the guy. He seems nice enough, but he looks like a run away train, and makes some bed decisions as to when to pass and when to shoot.
I hope I'm wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

I agree with you about Baby making a few bad decisions last night, but i do not like to judge this early,so i will chalk it up to it being the 1st preseason game.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I never was impressed with Baby. He brings solid energy, but I don't see the potential that everyone else does. Although he does seem to be a better defender than Powe, Powe's rebounding, scoring and ability to draw fouls makes him a much better player.

If he is not in better shape, he should be the one the Celtics move.

I agree. i think he's reached his ceiling. he's not going to lose anymore weight, certainly not going to get any taller..

I don't think we have seen him hit his ceiling yet.  I think he could be a much more effective player if he worked as hard to be in shape as he did going into last season, and stayed in that shape.

To me he looked like he's actually gained 20 pounds...  I am very disappointed with him because I would expect he would've lost some weight and put on more muscle but he has not.  He's never going to get any better until he gets in better shape.  I can understand why a rookie might be a little fat but a second year player needs to be more responsible.

Hate to say it but the biggest dissapointment to me after 1 pre-season game is Big Baby's big fat body.

I don't think you can get rid of him, I think his potential as an offensive player is higher then Powe's because he's a better ball handler and passer.  He's already a better defender as well.  Remember, he's only 22 years old and this is only going to be his 2nd year in the league.  Give the kid some time.
do it

There are a lot of young players on the Celtics roster, and they all need time.  Someone is going to be cut or traded, because not every one can be given the necessary time to develop.  I like BBD as much as the next guy, but at some point the Cs are going to choose to go with one of BBD or Powe.  I know they are different players, but at the end of the day, they both have the same ceiling/ position: backup "big" man who will provide a boost off the bench and be ready to play when called.  Both have expiring contracts and the team is not going to resign both of them.... I think Powe is more ready now, which is what the Cs need, especially given all the new young guys (POB, JR, Walker, Miles, Pruitt).
Celtics fan for life.

Dude get your prescription checked..If anything Davis has dropped 20 lbs and or replaced the fat with some more muscle. He is more defined in his arms and his face/ head is 2 sizes smaller than anytime last year. Its pretty obvious

He is a widebody trying to turn him into anything else is just not going to happen. Every team needs a few widebodies

He didnt look any more or any less trim than he did last year but he sure made a lot of poor decisions. You could tell hes trying to make this team as a full rotation guy because he was forcing a lot of shots and passes last night. I hope he doesnt get cut but i wouldnt be surprised to see him on the IR for most of the season.

yet he will never be as efficant as powe, IMO, because of his lack of athlitsim around the basket. powe is moreefficent because he's a relentless rebounder and he can get to the rim while standing still.

its great baby can shoot better, but honestly, i don't want my rolly polly 6'9 PF trying to shoot over people.

I'll take the 6'9 hard nosed rebounder stuffing home put backs any day of the week.

From last night only Powe gets the nod!
I like Davis but thinks he's good enough to have trade value.  We can also use him as 3rd string center.  I also did like the Powe,Davis,Miles front court last night.  I think Scals expiring contract is being looked at by danny as much as signing ray allen was studied.

If POB can play near the level we saw last night, I think BBD is the 5th man in a 4-man rotation.  I've never been nearly as impressed with him as many seem to be, especially since he's taking minutes away from a better player.

Davis and Powe are different players. If Rivers plays match ups like he should each player presents positives. Davis can gaurd larger players due to his bulk and strength. Powe will dominate smaller 4's but get hurt by taller players.

Plus you can get creative with Garnett playing the 5 and Powe or Davis playing the 4 at times. We have good options and this team is deeper that last year

The D-League is going to be in play for a few players and a couple guys are going to get cut/ ride the pine.
