I think that Powe is a keeper.  His athleticism and aggression in attacking the basket - he goes for flush dunks instead of settling for jumpers is quite valuable.

The real question is Big Baby vs Scalabrine vs Miles.  These are both tweener 4's that we'd use to guard bigger guys.  Scalabrine has the biggest salary so if it were up to me, I'd ship him off.  But who's going to take him?  His only value is his contract when it gets to the trade deadline, otherwise he has no value from a basketball standpoint.  If we could get a future 1st for a package of 1 or 2 of these guys, I'd do it just to clear the logjam.

If he is not in better shape, he should be the one the Celtics move.

Yep, these next 4 months are make or bake it time for Baby. By the trade deadline, he will be what he will be. If he can't beat out Powe, he should be moved.

His talent is so intriguing... but if his body wont let him maximize it... we need to move on.

If POB can play near the level we saw last night, I think BBD is the 5th man in a 4-man rotation.  I've never been nearly as impressed with him as many seem to be, especially since he's taking minutes away from a better player.

Consider this co-signed

My concerns with Big Baby have little to do with his skills and conditioning. I think the game is simply playing to fast for him, and I don't mean it in the sense that he's slow. I mean it in that the game hasn't slowed down for him yet, which prevents him from seeing the floor correctly, making the correct plays, and play with a bit of more confidence and patience His decision making has been quite dissapointing to me, and I think it starts with him not being comfortable in the NBA stage yet. Once the game slows down a bit for him, and he starts seeing the floor more clearly, he should be quite productive... but one has to wonder when that will happen.

"There are a lot of young players on the Celtics roster, and they all need time.  Someone is going to be cut or traded, because not every one can be given the necessary time to develop.  I like BBD as much as the next guy, but at some point the Cs are going to choose to go with one of BBD or Powe.  I know they are different players, but at the end of the day, they both have the same ceiling/ position: backup "big" man who will provide a boost off the bench and be ready to play when called.  Both have expiring contracts and the team is not going to resign both of them.... I think Powe is more ready now, which is what the Cs need, especially given all the new young guys (POB, JR, Walker, Miles, Pruitt)".

 Thats the Bottom Line.

If any of the bigs get hurt, we'll need BBD.

Big Baby will never be an overly productive player unless he seriously improves either his shooting or his rebounding.  There is no demand in the nba for a 6'8" 290lb guy who's main contribution is diving for loose balls.  He has some great tools such as good hands and strength, but that's not going to be enough to sustain an nba career without significant improvement in shooting/rebounding.
