I loved Antoine Walker, he's still my favorite player like - and it might sound crazy - ever! I've been following hoops for a long time but just was too young to miss the great late 80's Celtics and I could not identify with any other Boston player until Antoine...

All the best to Toine... and I hope we can welcome him back at some point.

I don't agree at all with the Bledsoe/Walker comparison. Bledsoe is in the top ten in NFL history in more than one category.   I do like both guys BTW.

I personally was never a Toine fan... I didn't hate him by any means... but this story always made me smile.

In an interview... towards the end of Toine's career with the C's... Toine is being criticized for his excessive 3's...

the reporter asks him... "Toine.. how come you take so many 3's?"

Toine smiles and says... "Because they're aren't any 4's..."

...classic. ;D

To me, as a Jets fan, that ranks right up there with Herm Edward's "You Play to win the game" quote.   ;)

Classic, indeed.  8)

To this day nobody has been ab;e to consistently feed the ball to Pierce in the post.  Toines high-low passing to peirce translated into many easy buckets...  Maybe thats what I miss most - good tonie, with desire and emotion flowing through his veins...

Funny you say that.  When I was watching the Celts first preseason game against the Sixers, we ran that play that Pierce loves so much.  The big has the ball at the top of the key, Paul basically just boxes out his man in front of the basket, and big man lobs the ball over Pierce, and Pierce grabs its and sneaks a layup in quickly before his man can get to it.  Thats the best I can explain it, but Im sure you all know what Im talkin about.

Anyway, in the game last Tuesday, KG tried to do the play, and like Perk always does, he didnt throw the ball high or far enough, and Pierce ended up missing a sloppy layup attempt.

Right after it happened, I said to myself, out loud, "Ugh.  I dont think Ive seen that play done right once since Antoine left."  It seemed like every time Paul and Antoine ran that play it was automatic.

At this point if anything Toine would give our bench a jolt of intensity something Scal can only wish he can do. I don't know what Scal brings to this team at this point....maybe to keep our players from getting complacent?

Our starters get a lead...bench comes in plays well for a significant amount of time against their bench and then their starters come in and make a little run, our bench loses the lead fights back and gets it tied up or a small lead then Scal comes in and misses the majority of his open looks and turns the ball over like he's never played basketball before and there goes our lead.

Ok, it's preseason and these games don't mean anything so that's probably why Scal is getting minutes but whatever he's showing on the floor is significantly poor and really destroying any trade value he has which wasn't much to begin with.

Antoine was a player that lost his athleticism early on in his career and reverted to the 3 point chucking gunner as a result.  He was the best player on very bad teams for a long time, until the full emergence of Pierce.   I can't hate the person he was because I really do believe that he wanted to win badly as a Celtic.  Despite his maddening inconsistencies, I still have fond memories of him for some reason.

Those bad teams would have been infinitely better had Walker not played on them. If the value of his contract was filled by a quality player of max value and just any ordinary power forward played instead of him, we would have won many more games. How can fans just conveniently forget how agonizing a player he was? He literally was hated by all fans wherever he played. He was hated here, in Dallas, and Miami. He's been in Atlanta, Minny, and now Memphis. How did that happen? How does everyone here forget what a miserable game he had? Nobody liked him when he was here at all and we all celebrated when he was traded. Don't tell me different. His haters far exceeded those few who liked him.He wasn't even a nice guy. Many of his statements still ring in my gut, the ---.You guys liked him? Good luck to you.

Maybe he was genuinely busy when you asked for his autograph ??? Long time to hold a grudge over that  ;)

You should do stand-up.   ::)

Interesting analysis...But while Walker wasn't the "perfectly-ordinary PF" that you wanted, his impact on this franchise cannot be measured in mere stats.  He brought hope to this franchise after being such an afterthought for years following Reggie's death. He gave Fans something to cheer for and pretty much started the Celtics back toward relevancey.  Sure he couldn't do it by himself and needed Paul but look at the teammates he had back then!!  And also, even MJ couldn't do it himself without Pippen, Rodman, Kerr, Kukoc, and others....

We haven't.  We know he puts the "IN" in IN-consistency....but some of us just plain didn't care 'cause he busted his azz out there trying to win every game and EFFORT, DESIRE, AND PASSION are traits we Boston Fans RESPECT And WANT out of our Players.

He was hated here, in Dallas, and Miami.

NewsFlash : REALGM Forums are not the place to properly gauge Fans' opinions on players.  I didn't hear any boos when he helped lead Boston back to the Playoffs when he came back that one year...I didn't hear any boos when he helped Miami win the NBA Title...

Give me a break, man.  You hate the guy? Fine.  But don't assume that everyone shares your viewpoint 'cause you'll be very surprised if you do believe that.

Quote
He's been in Atlanta, Minny, and now Memphis.

He wanted OUT of Dallas and Mark Cuban(who wanted him back) reluctantly agreed to make his wish come true.  If he wanted to stay, He would've still been in Dallas.  In retrospect, I'm happy that he left 'cause it would not have ended with him winning a title with Miami.   Speaking of Miami, he was thrown out of Miami and landed in Minny 'cause he was the "Fall Guy" for the body-fat nonsense whereas Shaq was supposed to be the REAL target(Riley was too chickensh*t to do anything to Shaq).  OH and they got Ricky Davis and Blount for him....How'd THAT Trade Work out?  EXACTLY.

And finally, he ends up in Memphis via being basically traded alongside Top Draft Picks and I think OJ Mayo is eons better the player that Kevin Love is.

How did that happen?

Maybe you clicked your ruby-red slippers stating 'There's no place like home' and PRESTO!   ::)

Why are you repeating yourself?  Or is this a recording and that we should leave a message at the sound of the beep?

Again...You're assuming too much.  But whatever lets you sleep well at night, I guess.   ;D

Quote
Don't tell me different.

It's a little late for that, I'm afraid.  In fact, I think I told you different about 50 times now.....

Quote
His haters far exceeded those few who liked him.

That is debatable AND you are AGAIN assuming something that is based solely on Opinion and not Fact.

Quote
He wasn't even a nice guy.

Now you're starting to be ridiculously foolish.  One constant with Walker(aside from his inconsistant game) was his Personality.  Now I don't know about Dallas but I do know that on the other teams'(Boston included) he's been on, he's been a very good lockerroom presence and the Players loved him.

Care to elaborate what "statements"?  Or is the "ringing in your gut" the result of eating too many Chili-Dogs?  You Hate him? A "GOOD LUCK" To *YOU*.

I was born in '89 so I didn't get to see the Celtics in their glory days. So Antoine Walker was my favorite Celtic growing up until Pierce got drafted. I have a soft spot for 'Toine.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6
