In my opinion, 2K wins as far as detail and realism is concerned.

Kobe's head in the Live picture looks like Sam Cassell's head

My bad on the second pic being blurry.
This one is a bit better. He was at the NBA Store in NYC a week or so ago!

  • You know my methods, Watson.
i've posted this before, but if you guys are fans of the historic nba rosters there is a guy over at operationsports.com (username: portlandblazer) that has put together the playoff teams from each season from 1980 until the present.  you can literally play thousands of games with these and get your money's worth and then some out of this game.  (he also posts over at the 2k sports forums as well).

all you need is the datel xchange software and an xbox 360 memory card (preferably the 56 mb) and you're good to go.  i have all his rosters for 2k8 and i actually play with them more than i do the current ones.  he has said that he'll make the rosters again for 2k9, so it's well worth it to purchase the transfer kit.  you'd be amazed at how accurate his rosters are.

i've purchased zander hollander's books on the history of the nba - they are paperback books from each year called "pro basketball handbooks"...he stopped making them in 1998, but i was able to get them on ebay fairly cheap.  great for any fan of classic nba games.

Okay, I will most likely purchase 2k9 tomorrow, but I wanted to know how to do crossovers and moves that gain separation. Being a recent Live convert, I used the right analog stick to string together a bunch of moves, but on 2k9, the right analog is the shot stick. Is there a button for crossovers?

You just to the right trigger and the swing the left joystick accordingly, and then you hold down left and right triggers to do spin moves and other more complicated dribbles.  I actually just picked up NBA 09 for PS3 and I must admit I'm loving it.  The mini games are addicting, and simulation wise it beats live IMO.  Its not on 2ks level yet but just wait till you get to play trashcan golf with basketballs and then you'll know how much fun it is...and POB is a beast in it!

the guide/booklet that comes with the game (2k9 for the 360) actually provides some information on the iso-moves.  i scanned it over, but it's basically the same stuff from last year's game if you're familiar with it.

btw, i'm really liking this year's game...definite upgrade over last year.

Ilgauskas and Kidd are toss ups if you ask me. They look good on both games. I think Bibby looks better on 2K, but Wallace clearly looks better on Live. Billups, to be honest, doesn't look that good on either of them. But overall 2K wins again.

Ok I'm really struggling here- I got 2K09 for Playstation 2.  Anyone know how to make trades?  It's driving me crazy I want to put Artest on the Rockets lol.

Deam... 2k fanboys abound!...

1.  Nba live has been constantly shunned for being the more realistic out of the 2.  2k is more arcade type feel... faster gameplay.

2.  LIVE focuses more on team play as 2k focuses on individual play.

3.  LIVE updates DAILY, the DNA system is tight.

4.  2k graphics = much better.

5.  in LIVE... Rondo a 71  Pruitt a 70?  How the hell does that happen?

I got 2K9 on Wednesday and it is the best basketball game I have ever played.  They really upgraded the graphics, almost every player looks exatly like he does in real life, and the gameplay as always is excellent.  I haven't played live 09 but I have a hard time believing that it is better than 2K9 considering how horrible Live has been the last few years.  I switched to 2K last year and haven't regretted it at all, IMO the last good Live game was 04.

2k9 is leaps and bounds better than Live. I thought about not buying either this year, but came to my senses when a friend 'highly recommended' NBA 2k9. Now I've played about eight or nine games since buying it on Saturday night.

Not yet. I'm hoping by the next roster update. 2k9 can should release Miles and add Gabe to the team.
