O'Bryant attended Blaine High School in Blaine Minnesota, He was named Second Team All-State following a senior season in high school in which he averaged 18.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game while leading Blaine to a 24-4 record.

If POB was 2nd team all-state, anyone know who was first team?

Regardless, I think if he doesn't play defense, we should call him Patty O'Chair

Hard to believe the 9ht best high school player from MN is now on the world champion Boston Celtics and may be in a position where he needs to play meaningful minutes, especially if Perk is nursing the shoulder in any way.  (TP for  VT Fan by the way).  It is going to be interesting.  I don't have a whole lot to go on but somehow I think all of us are going to be pleasently surprised with the 7th runner up for Mr. Basketball in MN 2004 (or is it 8th runner up?).

I think we're going to be sadly wishing he had the drive of Mark Blount

If Perk is banged up or needs to sit this year, I guess we better get used to:

a- small ball :o

b- Davis/Powe/Scalabrine at the center position ???

c- POB suddenly busts out ;D

If he plays the way he played at Bradley and Golden State, he should be cut.

Danny has to make a move to bolster this position. We cannot risk the situation as it exists.

In general it takes Centers longer to develop with some exceptions.   Danny and his staff something with PO to sign him to a 2 year deal.   He has been working with Clifford Ray ever since we signed him.   I say let's not hit the panic button just yet and pull off a trade we might regret.  If it was January or February close to the trading deadline and he wasn't working out then consider other alternatives but I don't think we have to do anything now.

I agree with both of you, but I would like to have a backup plan at the 3rd string center spot that does not include Scalabrine/Powe/Davis. I see no reason not to have signed a Michael Doleac or someone who is an actual center that can play for 10-12 mpg and not kill us because they are way out of natural position. 8)

Although I agree that they need more depth at center, people seem to be forgetting that Garnett is a hell of a center too.  When you consider the fact that there are very few big, pounding centers left (or at least ones that are any good), it really is not so bad to have Garnett at center.  I have a feeling even if they did bring in someone else, unless they were a major upgrade (like Foster), Garnett will be getting a good deal of minutes as the center, with Powe or Big Baby as the PF...then they would adjust who is covering who depending on who they are playing against.

Agree w/ chris, KG can be one of the better centers in the league, maybe not for the whole year but for awhile.  I also liked KG and Davis with baby's meat to physically defend the opposing centers.  And again there aren't a lot of true 7' big boy centers like Shaq anymore.  I think Obie part II should be given the benefit of the doubt, kid has EVERYTHING to prove and even if he can just give us good d that is all we need.  As for perk's shoulder I was always under the theory that it is a reaccuring injury unless you have the surgery and tighten up the stretched areas?

I like the KG/Davis combo as well.  Against low post centers, that is the best combo other than KG/Perk.  They did a great job with it against the Lakers.  Davis can lean on the big guys, and make sure they don't get position, and then KG is there to help if they try to make a move to the middle.

Today I was wondering again whether the Celts will regret not drafting DeAndre Jordan at #30 instead of Giddens. Even if Jordan isn't the better prospect, center is a position of need and it might have been intriguing to watch Clifford Ray work with both Jordan and O'Bryant all summer, and next summer.
