"I think people are waiting for an MC that doesn't glorify violence"
NO. Hip Hop fans are waiting for a "REAL" artist. It depends on what "Real" means to them. They want a good rapper, with good beats, and talks about things that matter that they can relate too.
Biggie, Pac, Nas, and many other elite mainstream artists that are considered good rappers in hip hop circles all glorified violence at one point
The majority of hip hop fans can't relate to growing up poor in the ghetto, guns, violence, crime.
I'm just saying that as soon as soemone comes along that breaks the gangsta rap mold they blow up, because their diffrent. People are tired of hearing the same songs. You can grab anyone with street cred, that's been to prison or who's got shot and sign him to a record contract based on that alone.
When biggie and tupac were doing it, it was still fresh. I think its phasing out. Sadly its all about the record companies, so when Kanye out sold 50, suddenly they realize that the fans don't really care that Kanye isn't a thug.
When Nirvana came out and became really popular, everyone was trying to sign that type of music, a few good bands emerged but mostly you ended up with a bunch of untalented Nirvana rip offs.
When NWA came out, everyone wanted to sing gangsta rappers, biggie and tupac emerged as a result but mostly we ended up with a bunch of untalented rip offs.
