I've had two people approach me with two offers in the last 24 hours to get involved with separate business plans that will "change my life for the better". One was from an old friend of a friend, and the other was a person I buy an unrelated product from for my shop.  Both had attended seminars and would make referrals if I signed up (which I'm not).

Has anyone else seen a rise in being approached about things like this?  Is anyone involved in one?

It just creeped me out a bit.

Both seemed to have pyramid scheme written all over them.

Yes. a Co-worker wanted me to sign up for this internet site to buy things "I normally would anyway" (like Deodorant, Razors ect.). The idea is to get others to sign up under me.

He said I would make a percentage off of what the people under me buy and who they get to sign up under them.... Basic pyramid...

You mean all I have to do is get every single one of my friends and family to sign up too. Wow, it sounds so easy and simple, I'd be stupid not to do it.  Where do I sign up?  ::)

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

A good rule of thumb-

Keep your friends and your money separated. Otherwise you will end up losing at least one, probably both.

I just found the whole thing bizarre and uncomfortable, and I sort of felt bad for the person trying sell this on me.

What was the movie where the couple is invited to their neighbors house for dinner and there is a really bizarre dynamic going on like the hosts might want to arrange a spouse swap or something, then the husband ends up trying to sell him on some household goods plan?

I have found that to be solid advice.

It sounds like this is what Redz ran into.  AmWay now runs this buisness called QuikStar that does the same sort of pyramid household items scheme.  Once upon a time when I was scraping for cash, i went to one of these meetings.  There was like 200 people there and they all wanted to treat you like family or something, very cult-like and creapy, ended up leaving about half way through.
