just gonna rant for a second here...

driving home from work on 114 in Danvers, I'm behind a Hummer, who swerves into oncoming traffic, almost kills someone, swerves back - the person she almost killed honks, she blares her horn back like its their fault they were in her path of destruction, I'm like whoa

so I kinda follow her, she's swerving a bit, I think she must be a little drunk or something, get behind her at a red light, look in her sideview - she has a freaking chihuaha (sp) on her lap...

some people should not be allowed to drive or procreate...both should require liscences...

for good measure she went straight on a left turn only lane... and she had no idea how dumb she was I'm sure...

  • You know my methods, Watson.
a few days ago here in tampa, fl we had a lady go the wrong way on the expressway.  she hit a car and killed a lady who had her 4 year old daughter with her (who lived).  later is was stated that her blood-alcohol level was 3 times the legal limit.

at least no one died today from the story you told...

agreed, and they could have... its amazing how many stories I hear like that - as much of a hassle as it would be, there really needs to be either a relicensing program, or even the idea that citizens with good driving records can report things like this in an easy, clean anonymous way and have something actually done about it

I hate slow drivers. I mean, I'm all for driving below the speed limit, but when someone drives 20 on a 35 mph speed limit. I hate it when I'm behind a slow driver.

Worst ones are the people who slow down and brake on the on-ramp...it's supposed to be a launching pad not a fiery car wreck lane.

exception are merges though, some people come in off of off ramps like the off ramp is its own lane and therefore any cars who happen to be in the right lane don't exist...also causing fiery car wrecks

On the off-ramp with a dramatic turn, thank God i had enough awareness to slam on my breaks to a car going in reverse towards me!

My heart jumped out of my chest... The girl was probably 17 with a car full of High school kids...

There are few times I've been more disgusted while driving...

Last year I was coming home from taking my daughter to school and was going 35 up the road that leads to our house when a girl ran a stop sign and hit me.  She was going 50 in a 25 mph zone and was putting on her makeup because she was late for her first class and wasn't paying attention to the road or the fact that there was a stop sign.  She totaled my Kia van that had less than 4000 miles on it.  Thankfully Kias are as safe as they say they are.  She had some injuries but was ok.

I bought a brand new 2008 Honda Civic Si back in October.  Had it for a lil over a month and babied the hell out of it.  While I was in LA, I was stopped at a redlight, behind 8 other freakin cars, for nearly a minute.  All of a sudden I felt my car jerk forward.  I know I didn't stall cause it wasn't in gear.  Turns out there was this teenaged kid driving his parents Ford Escape, texting on his phone, who happened to just rear ended me.

And can someone please explain the reason why so many, not all just seeming all, drivers of cars that cost more the $60,000 drive as if they have some entitlement to the road that the average Joe Schmuck doesn't have. cdif's is only one story of a person in a Hummer with that type of attitude but I can't tell you how many times I have seen the same attitude on display from people driving really expensive cars.

Also, can someone please call their local state representative like I do and insist that they start legislation that once over the age of 65 you must pass a driving test every 2 years in order to keep your license. These "Sunday drive home from church" drivers are the absolute worst and maybe most dangerous drivers on the road that are still sober and above the age of 17.

Can we please get rid of every single rotary in Massachusetts?

If you have driven off of these on ramps you know they are two of the most dangerous on ramps in the country, the entrance onto Route 1 south in Peabody, MA from Lowell Street and the entrance onto Route 1 south in Saugus from Walnut Street, state route 129. Can the state please come up with some cash to expand route 1 south in these two spots to stop all the accidents? Coming south out of NH on weekends becomes nearly impossible sometimes once you get of I95 onto Route 1 because of the traffic backups from accidents at these two spots.

strange you wrote this...my wife and i just bought a brand new kia sedona two weeks ago...i had no intention of purchasing one but the sales guy got me (ha!).  it's a new '08 (LX model - the more basic one) that they drove right out of the showroom.  i was driving home after taking my kids to school 3 days ago and some stupid chick saw me coming and still pulled out in front of me.  i slammed on my brakes and swerved to miss her and they (her and the stupid girl with her) started laughing.  for a split second i was wishing i was still driving my 1976 malibu, with the front bumper that could hit a tank and still survive...

glad to hear the kia's are very safe, which was a reason we decided to buy it...

As one who travels for work, I too have seen my share of horrific drivers and horrific accidents, in fact I have been the first on the scene of more than my fair share of horrific accidents.

Two thoughts regarding this, 1) I am very thankful that cellphones are available to call first responders, the response times for these accidents have been cut way down due to the ability to contact them so quickly (obviously some accidents are caused by cellphone usage as well).  2)  I wish all cars were equipped with a fire extinguisher and a small first aid kit.  Having used an extinguisher to get a victim out, I know how useful they are.

-----
That all being said --- I am not sure what I hate more, the drivers or the fans......we are talking about NASCAR right?  The only thing more stupid than racing cars is racing cars in a circle.
I love my kids - Call me a sap, but it's true.

Ah...come on, Nick.

You don't like the adventure that is navigating a rotary? A few of my favorites are the one in Powderhouse rotary in Somerville, and the two on the Fresh Pond Parkway in Cambridge.  Your life is clearly in someone else's hands when driving through those.

Only certain people should be allowed near rotaries and out-of-staters are not one of them.

I completely agree. 14 years ago, my uncle was struck and killed while riding his bike by an 80 year old who proceeded to drag him 150 feet before passing motorists flagged him down. The old guy didn't even know he hit my uncle despite the cracked windshield and numerous people waving him down.
