With training camp and preseason now about a month away, it is interesting to note that old friend Delonte West is still not signed. I seriously doubt the Cavs traded for a player with Mo Williams contract to have him sit on the bench and with Daniel Gibson already signed and a favorite of one LeBron James, I think it could be assumed that Gibson will get plenty of PT as well.

So where does that leave Delonte?

Comments from Delonte have been impossible to get by the Cleveland press. There has been little to no word coming out of the Cavs front office regarding anything on D West. And a review of what's left after the trades by Danny Ferry seems to have left the front court a bit thin.

Could a sign and trade be a possibility where Delonte is sent out of town for some PF or C help?

Now I'm not a big proponent of bringing Celtics of past times back but if Tony Allen is going to be playing a bunch of backup 3 minutes, a versatile guy who has a decent outside shot, can play both guard positions and is a good defender might be a good pick up for a combo of Pruitt and either Powe/Baby and some cash. Maybe 2nd round pick might be necessary too. Not sure.

I'd would be surprised if Cleveland would even do a deal with the C's now that they are a rival for Eastern Conference supremacy. But what's the harm in Danny sniffing around.

I also doubt the Celtics could put together anything, but if not them, where could Delonte end up and for what? My guess is Golden State would love to have a guy like Delonte now that Ellis has gone down and that it looks like it could be a while before he returns. It also wouldn't surprise me to see a team like the Wizards get involved either. Heck maybe the Knicks if something big could be put together with getting Randolph or Curry out of town.

What's your thoughts and ideas?

From Boston, I would expect it to cost Davis (who replaces Smith as an offensive bench reserve) one of the rookies and Scali (to make contracts work)

I can see other teams putting together better offers.

I could see NO taking a run at him to back up Paul.  (replace Pargo)

Also could Utah make an attempt.

As much as we all like Delonte, I really did not think he was able to implement Docs offense. He was not quick enough off the dribble to get into the lane. Defenders would not buy his fake drives and would play him for his shot which was usually contested. He was also not that great on def. I think Pruitt, from what little I have seen, is quicker and can be get more steals. Still needs to be a  better team defender and get bigger; but I think they see Pruitt as an upgrade - although turnovers are still a concern.

This is two trade thoughts in two weeks that don't include Scalabrine.  Have we already traded Scal?  The concept of a trade that doesn't include him is unfathomable.

Good thought but I doubt they'd make a trade of any magnitude with a fellow contender.

West not what we need now

I do not really think we need Delonte back he is not really the kind of guy we need to back up Rondo we just need a veteran to play some minutes here and there barring anything terrible happen like an injury. I would not give up Powe or Davis; these two are your best hopes for developing talent on the bench and will be need much more with no James Posey. West is not on my wish list back up PG is not the biggest concern to me. Short of getting in a time machine and getting Posey, back the biggest need is a Center. Perkins has no back up and has a history of going down with injury we need another PJ Brown if anything right now. Patrick O Bryant just will not cut it. Good luck to Delonte though.

Delonte...NO!!!
I just don't want Leon or Baby or any other player not named Scal or Pruitt go via trade for D-West

I don't think the Celtics have anything they're willing to give up that Cleveland would want. The Cavs are way over the cap and won't want to take back players/contracts unless they are difference makers.

There's a few teams that could put offers on the table, but seriously why? Who's paying Delonte that type of money? I think it's a long shot.

I expect him to take the qualifying offer and try again in 12 months time as an unrestricted free agent.
