With training camp and preseason now about a month away, it is interesting to note that old friend Delonte West is still not signed. I seriously doubt the Cavs traded for a player with Mo Williams contract to have him sit on the bench and with Daniel Gibson already signed and a favorite of one LeBron James, I think it could be assumed that Gibson will get plenty of PT as well.
So where does that leave Delonte?
Comments from Delonte have been impossible to get by the Cleveland press. There has been little to no word coming out of the Cavs front office regarding anything on D West. And a review of what's left after the trades by Danny Ferry seems to have left the front court a bit thin.
Could a sign and trade be a possibility where Delonte is sent out of town for some PF or C help?
Now I'm not a big proponent of bringing Celtics of past times back but if Tony Allen is going to be playing a bunch of backup 3 minutes, a versatile guy who has a decent outside shot, can play both guard positions and is a good defender might be a good pick up for a combo of Pruitt and either Powe/Baby and some cash. Maybe 2nd round pick might be necessary too. Not sure.
I'd would be surprised if Cleveland would even do a deal with the C's now that they are a rival for Eastern Conference supremacy. But what's the harm in Danny sniffing around.
I also doubt the Celtics could put together anything, but if not them, where could Delonte end up and for what? My guess is Golden State would love to have a guy like Delonte now that Ellis has gone down and that it looks like it could be a while before he returns. It also wouldn't surprise me to see a team like the Wizards get involved either. Heck maybe the Knicks if something big could be put together with getting Randolph or Curry out of town.
