Okay, since there isn't a lot of other stuff to talk about... How about those boys in the Motor City?

The GM said everyone was on the block, the team couldn't win as constructed, etc... Now, they haven't made any major moves this off-season, they signed some low picks, and the aged veterans got a year older (Chauncy, Rasheed). While the team isn't over-the-hill yet, they certainly didn't get over the hump that prevented them from winning the title last season. With the same core group of guys going in to the season that was belittled by their organization after losing in the playoffs, how high do you think their motivation will be?

Do they need to do something before the season starts? Outside of their young point guard, who is going to be the team leader when everyone was discussed as a trade possibility? Are they regressing or progressing?

Thoughts? Opinions?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Should've moved sheed for young talent, or moved young talent for a center.

A move like Sheed for Josh Smith or Marvin Williams would've made an absolute ton of sense for me.

They were in the East Finals.

They have a new coach.

They are being patient so they can get the deal they want.  They are not going to rush (like some teams do) and just make the 1st trade they can.

  • Hinrich sucks, Deng sucks, Bulls suck, I'm out.
Unless Larry Brown walks through that door, the pistons are never going to win a title again, not with the players they have now that is. Flip, is a mediocre coach. His play for the last 12 minutes of every game, is give it to sheed in the post, so he can try and hit a fade away.

But why would Atlanta take Sheed? They're not going to win anything with him there, and they'd have to give up one of their best pieces to get him.

Atlanta takes Sheed because they get one of the best frontcourts in the league between Horford and Wallace.

They would win a lot MORE with him there.

Bibby
Johnson
WIlliams
Horford
Wallace

THats top 3 in the East IMO

If Miles turns out to be a productive player (which I think we signed him for), Detroit even has e lesser chance to win against us with the moves they have made.

That's top 3 in the east for a year, Sheed is going to fall off soon which is why this move doesn't make sense to me. If you're going young like the Hawks are, you trade those assets for a player that makes you a championship contender. 'Sheed is simply not that player at this stage in his career.

The starting 5 of Bibby, Johnson, Marvin Williams, Al Horford and Rasheed Wallace matches everyone but the C's, for my money. Its better than Washington, Toronto, and the Cavaliers. I think its as good as Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Smith and Mcdyess

Tough time against the sixers, but I really think they'd be in competition for the 3rd or 4th seed in the east, winning the SE

I think the Hawks should (but won't) make the trade because Josh Smith doesn't want to play there, and winning big for 1 year is better than never getting over the hump.

If Sheed did end up being traded to Atlanta it would be pretty ironic.

Remember the 48 Hours he spent on the Haks before being shipped to Detroit? He played on game...

FYI, this is the deal that netted the C's Chucky Atkins
"      “I can make a trade every day if I want to, but that's not going to help us. A trade that would get us better rarely comes along. They're very difficult to find. Good trades are very difficult in our league and don't happen very often.”

I think there have to be better moves out there for the Hawks than trading their best defender for an aging 'Sheed. Now if an older team like say Utah wanted to send either AK or Okur and a young piece for 'Sheed, I would understand it. But the pieces around 'Sheed in Atlanta wouldn't be good enough to win them a championship.

This offseason had a rumor of T-MAC to the Pistons.I think the team had it's championship. Look everyone there one title was not a fluke,or was it not earned, but they hit a role, and went up against a Laker team hurt, and they all hated each other. To win championships in this league you need a superstar,or a MVP player thats it. This team has good players, but not a superstar. It's a team, and it works for wins, and in a weak East. Look at the list of champions. A few teams like the Sonics in 79 won a championship without a huge superstar, but that team had alot of good players. Also alot of championship teams have 2-3 superstars. So they should have went out and got a superstar type player, and tried for T-mac.They should have drafted Wade in 03. That team would have took over!

Detroit did a bit of treading water this season, true.  But I think they were probably the #2 team last year.  So what happens if KG gets injured late in the season?  All of a sudden, Detroit might be the favorite.

Joe Dumars is not fool.  He won't make a trade he doesn't want to just because there is a little pressure.
