I was a Celtics fan before dirt was invented.

Went to high school with Dynamite Don Nelson.

Playing for the Rock Island "Rocks" (yes, our mascot was a rock), Don was a very solid center.

More surprising was Don's play at center for the Iowa Hawkeyes. At that time, the Big Ten had some talented, bigger centers (e.g., Jerry Lucas and Walt Bellamy), but Don more than held his own, even though he was barely 6'6".

And then, of course, the universe smiled on Don, and he was picked up by Red.
