In a slow off season, the mind wanders - my proposed Ray Allen for Vinnie-bag-of-Donuts trade stands as a shining example - but the recent Ron Artest to Houston trade got me wondering:

Will a two star team ever win the championship again?

Here is the challenge: build an eight man rotation comprised of two current stars - your choice - and 6 roleplayers from the list below. For the purpose of this challenge, salary considerations do not exist, and your team would have to beat the 07-08 NBA Champion Boston Celtics in a 7 game series.

Position   Player   Designation   08 PER
PG   Dan Gibson   Shooter   11.77
PG   Rafer Alston   Slasher   13.30
PG   Steve Blake   Distributor   12.09
SG   Francisco Garcia   Shooter   15.16
SG   Mickael Gelabale   Finisher   10.54
SG   Raja Bell   Defender   10.55
SF   Bonzi Wells   Slasher   14.37
SF   Jason Kapono   Shooter   10.79
SF   Matt Barnes   Roleplayer   13.04
PF   Channing Frye   Shooter   14.83
PF   Drew Goodwn   Roleplayer   13.84
PF   Reggie Evans   Rebounder   11.05
C   DeSagana Diop     Shot Blocker   12.49
C   Josh Boone   Defender   14.86
C   Nazr Mohammed   Rebounder   15.85

PG: Steve Blake
SG: Raja Bell
SF: Lebron James
PF: Drew Gooden
C: Dwight Howard

6: Jason Kapono
7: Rafer Alston
8: Nazr Mohammed

They would beat the C's in a 7 game series, considering the present-day Cavs almost did. Imagine Lebron with Dwight Howard, plus an even better supporting cast.

[dang] you CFF GET OUT OF MY HEAD. But seriously you must be extremely intelligent to pick the same players as me (I know you entered it first but when I started thinking about my players you hadn't posted yet)

jason kapono

alston

This team would be an all around team. With Chris Paul and Kobe being themselves then the 3 pt shooting of kapono, the inside game of gooden, along with the rebounding of nazr would. Then add a baller like alston, a defender off the bench like bell and a big man off the bench like evans and this team would give the celtics a run for their money.

Obviously the Garnett submission is void, but that is a solid team.

Lots of Lebron + Howard = Victory, but I am not convinced. With his outside shooting, Big Z presents more of a matchup problem for the C's than Howard does - Perk can match muscles with him. Gooden is worthless against Garnett, and Bell is not the player he was three seasons ago...

Some good matchups, but I am not sure we have found a sure thing yet.

I'm not going to even bother. Adding the two best players you can, like LeBron and DHoward to any of the 6 pieces of garbage you listed still isn't going to get the job done versus the Celtics.

Heck, LeBron, DHoward and any of those 6 pieces of garbage couldn't defeat any of the teams in the conference finals last year as well as San Antonio, Phoenix, and Cleveland.

There's just no quality or cohesion in any of the available parts you gave to put together a team good enough to beat any of the teams I listed.

That said I do believe a great two player pair with enough decent talent around them could win it all and beat the Big Three's that exist in SA, Boston, Houston, Phoenix and so on. But there has to be some talent there.

For instance, if you put LeBron on the Magic in place of Turkoglu, I think they win a title. Now some might consider Rashard Lewis good enough to be considered in a Big Three type of thing, but I don't. He might get paid like an elite player but I find him rather average over all.

I read the rules wrong.

I'd do like wd did however, and probably replace him with duncan.
