Yesterday I was working on the grill in this resort on the Cape and I had this idea of asking a really random question to all the people working at the time (I was pretty bored as we were setting up for the buffet).  In the end, we ended up getting some really interesting answers.  So here is the question:

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?

Maybe later I'll ask the other question I came up with.

I would make it square.

I would like to see how people got around the corners.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I would take all the land masses and disribute them evenly and together across the world, instead of having 500 mile wide oceans in the middle. Make it harder for people to think that citizens in america are any different from citizen in china, or citizens in angola are any different than citizens of the UK

My answer was to have the people in the world be more open to different cultures and therefore, end prejudice and discrimination.

I would put me in charge so I could change more than one thing.

I was gonna say make broccoli taste better, but this is a much better idea.

I would also make instant karma real.  That way, Manny wouldn't have been traded to the Dodgers and start hitting like crazy, on his way to getting a fat new contract that will no doubt backfire on the team that signs him.  He would be traded to the Pirates, play out the season and blow out his knee while trotting to first on a ground ball out.  He would subsequently not receive another contract, and Scott Boras would not get a commision....and they would both have a perpetual feeling of water in their ears.  I'm mean that is just annoying.

If this was one year ago, I would've said I wished the Celtics would've traded their #5 pick for Ray Allen then traded for Kevin Garnett then have the best record in the league and win Banner #17 but well, you know...

One good one of my coworkers mentioned was he would eliminate all the corruption in the world.  That would truly make the world a better place.

Okay, so this is another question that I came up with.

Would you kill one person in order to save 100 people?

To take a step further, would you kill one person you are familiar with (say a cousin) in order to save 100 people?

Nope.  Human over-population will be our demise on this planet someday.  Let darwin take care of the 100 people.

This is discussing an illegal act. Naughty, naughty.

As for the first question I'd eliminate diseases of all kinds. Some of the greatest people die way too early.

If the "one person" was Carrot Top, I'd do it.

Regarding changing the world, I would like parents to know the words that would convince  teenage daughters everywhere that being kind, generous, honest, compassionate, dedicated and considerate are more important and valuable in our society than being pretty -- and I'd like it to be true.
