I think Kobe is a better player than Paul. He's certainly more talented.
I think Paul outperformed Kobe in the playoffs, but Kobe has more of a track record of doing more with less.
I would much rather have Paul on my team, though. He's a better person, and a better teammate.
right, this was what i was saying in my post, i understand and 100% agree with pierce being the better teamate and person, and wouldn't want kobe on my team for any reason, but the ones im refering to with blinders are those that argue pierce is better than kobe on a SKILL WISE level(which some do, and is ludacris, Kobe is more talanted, it doesn't make him better)
Skill wise, Paul is a better:
- defender
- passer
- rebounder
- team leader
And he is much more offensively efficient than Kobe, rarley taking upwards of 25 shots in a game.
Kobe is an athletic freak with a killer jumpshot and a flair for the dramatic. Its a sign of the times, to conclude the better player to be the one who makes the spectacular plays on SportsCenter -- as oppose the player with the all-around game who evevated his team over Kobe's.
Both players in their prime met in the Finals and Paul was unstopable, while Kobe was pedestrian.
For the Harlem Globetrotters - you take Kobe Bryant --- For an NBA team - you take the better all around basketball player, Paul Pierce.
come on now.
he isn't a better defender, Kobe is a canadite year in and out for DOY, and deservedly so. Paul, while he's shown this year he can be an outstanding defender, was hammered on these boards and in general before KG suited up for being a lazy defender. Lets not try to revise history to make ourselves look smarter. before KG came, i saw paul as an elite scorer who could play good defense when motivated, lets not act like he's been great for the last 5 years.
He is a better rebounder, he isn't a better passer, though that might be a wash.
Team leader isn't a physical skill, and i said he was better at it in my post.
Kobe was pedestriain because we play incredible defense, and we rocked them with it. that has nothing to do with who is the better player talent and skill wise, unless you count ray allen and james posey as physical assets of paul pierce.
And with your last point, even my green tinted lenses crack, as i said, paul is the better guy for a team, but to compare kobe to a globetrotter skill wise, get over yourself.
honestly people, its ok to be proud of a guy being a better basketball player from a team aspect, which he absolutly is, and to love a guy for it, as i do, paul's been my favroite player since he got me into the celtics all those years ago, but don't lie to yourself because you don't want to see facts.
Kobe is the better indivdual player
Paul is by far the better team player.
Since basketball is a team game, that makes paul more valuable to me.
